LELKÉSZEGYESÜLETE KONFERENCIA

Az Amerikai Magyar Református Lelkészegyesület szeptember 1-én és 2-án tartotta meg ez évi közgyűlését a ligonieri Bethlen Otthonban. A konferencia a szokásus úrvacsorái istentisztelettel kezdődött, közösen a Presbiteri Szövetséggel. Tőkés István, kolozsvári professzor hirdette az Igét. Az istentiszteleti szolgálatot Török István, Póznán Béla, Kovács Pál és Rőczey Barnabás végezték. Illés Lajos orgonáit.

Délután 3:00-kor Rőczey Barnabás elnök köszöntötte a megjelenteket és megnyitotta a közgyűlést. A megnyitás után meghallgattuk Dr. Füle Aurélia Kálvin társadalom-etikájáról szóló előadását, majd Dr. Bárczay Gyula számolt be „Az Európai Protestáns Magyar Szabadegyetem” életéről és munkájáról.

Vacsora után Bertalan Imre, Dr. Bütösi János és Puskás Béla terjesztették elő jelentéseiket a debreceni Kollégium Kántusának észak-amerikai körútjáról. Ezután a résztvevők meghallgatták Dr. Medyesy László, Dr. Havadtőy

Sándor és Király Zoltán püspök képes beszámolóját az ausztráliai Magyar Református Egyházak életéből.

Szeptember 2-án a reggeli áhítatot Medgyesi Lajos végezte. Utána Tőkés István tartott előadást az erdélyi Magyar Református Egyház időszerű problémáiról, majd Dr. Havadtőy Sándor előadása következett Barth Károly teológiájáról. Továbbá a közgyűlés tárgyalta a Magyar Református Világszövetség ügyét, megtárgyalta a dél-amerikai magyar miszsziót, meghallgatta a Bethlen Otthon múzeumáról és levéltárról elhangzott beszámolókat.

A Lelkészegyesület kinevezett és felhatalmazott egy bizottságot, hogy foglalkozzék a Magyar Református Világszövetség megtervezésével és létrehozásával. A bizottság tagjai: Dr. Medyesy László, Dr. Harsányi András, Dr. Komjáthy Aladár, Dr. Bütösi János, Bertalan Imre, Török István, Endrei Ferenc és Rőczey Barnabás.

Rőczey Barnabás elnök zárószavai után Ábrahám Dezső püspök imájával ért véget a lelkészi konferencia.

ALLEN PARK, Ml

On Sunday, August 3rd, at a special congregational meeting, the Rev. Imre A. Bertalan was elected to be our associate pastor. He has served the Toledo, Ohio church for the past 7 years, and plans to start working here in October.

The Church Council engaged Jan Dykshoorn, student from Calvin Seminary, Grand Rapids, as summer assistant to work with the Bible school and youth.

Sunday, August 10th, special tribute was expressed to the following teachers, who were awarded plaques in recognition of faithful service as Sunday School teachers for many years: Mrs. Esther and Helen Káplár, Zoltán, Irene and Arthur Ambrus. The new Sunday School superintendent is Mrs. Anna Souto.

The summer youth camp was attended and enjoyed by the following: Kinga Benyei, Angela and Enikő Dombi, Sandra and Sylvia Imre, John King, Tünde Maksai, Elizabeth Molnár, Christine Redmer, Debbie Sobodash, Laura and Louis Varga, Tammy Reece, Edith Winkler, Judy and Ted Torok. Also two advisors, Robert King and Mrs. Amalia Kulcsár.

All organizations of the church will resume regular schedule in the fall.

CARTERET, NJ

The Lorantffy Women’s Guild’s Chinese Auction held in June was a success. The Church Council together with the Men’s Club and Lorantffy Women’s Guild honored John Nemish with a Testimonial Dinner in August, on the

occasion of his retirement from the Carteret Church Council after being an elder for 47 years, and Chief Elder for a few years. He also was serving the Synod of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America as its Chief Elder for the last 13 years. The Rev. Nitsch and Chief Elder Sendelsky presented him with a plaque on which all the names of the present Church Council members were engraved. Among those present was Bishop Abraham, Bishop Elect Dr. Harsanyi, Mayor Sica, all area clergy and church members of the neighboring congregations, over 200 people.

The saem afternoon, August 2, 1986, the Bishop’s Council met in the Parsonage of our church and opened the ballots of the election. We are proud that our Pastor Emeritus, Dr. Andrew Harsanyi was almost unanimously elected as the new Bishop. The new Chief Elder of the Synod is Anthony Beke of Trenton. Congratulations! The ordination and installation of the Bishop will take place here in Carteret on November 8, 1986 at 4:00 p.m., following the General Assembly meeting which will start at 1:00 p.m. The ordination service will be followed by a Banquet in our Bethlen Hall, at around 6:00 p.m.

Our New Bread Holy Communion service was well attended.

plants The Men’s Club Buy-A-Brick Fundraiser was very successful, it concluded with a dinner-dance on Sept. 6th.

The Sunday School opened its doors for the new season on Sept. 14th. Unfortunately, because of the factories and plants are closing down in Carteret, due to heavy pollution, young people are moving out of town, and this year we have only 20 children sign up for Sunday School. Five years ago we still had about 60 children. There are only two coming for Catechism, to be confirmed this coming year.
