The Hon. Peter Sica, Mayor of the Borough of Carteret was present with his lovely wife, as well as representatives of both the Democratic and Republican parties. This event always gives our politicians to get to know our Hungarian community. Unfortunately the same evening ended in a tragedy in our church community, when in the Hungarian-American Club of Woodbridge, our wtll respected and loved church and Guild member, Mrs. Ilona Delbacs was shot to her death by Mr. John Benga. Our Pastor, The Rev. Nitsch and wife Ilona took in the two orphaned daughter of the late Mrs. Delbacs, received the consent of the divorced father, and her two sisters who came out from Transylvania, and became permanent guardians of the girls. Martha (16) and Anikó (12) will live with the Pastor and his family. They also set up a Trust Fund, the “Delbacs Sister’s Fund” in order to help keep the mortgaged house and property of the girls, and help their further education. If anyone would like to help, they can send their donations to the above named fund, to the Hungarian Reformed Church of Carteret. On the funeral service held on Oct. 25, The Very Rev. Dr. Andrew Harsanyi and The Very Rev. Stefan Torok helped out our Pastor. In the church where was no standing room left. Thanks for your services. The Men’s Club and The Lorantffy Women’s Guild graciously underwrote immediately the funeral expenses, in the amount of $3,000. May God bless all the members for their generosity. Martha and Anikó would also like to thank all the friends and strangers who showed their love and concern, and contributed toward the Fund. The Women’s Guild had a successful Rummage Sale. We would also like to thank the family of Louis Toth who had contributed towards it, generously. Our Church contributed towards the scholarship Fund of the 25th Hungarian Protestant Ball, and the Pastor and his wife attended the event. On Nov. 11th our church hosted the Memorial service for the Fire Department’s deceased members. On Nov. 18 we set the Lord’s Table for Holy Communion for Thanksgiving and for New Wine. The same afternoon at 4:30 we participated in an Interfaith Thanksgiving service held by The Carteret Ministerial Association, all clergy present, in the Community Hall of St. Demetrius Ukrainian Church. Some members also participated on that same day in the Thanksgiving Dinner in our Magyar Reformed Church in Perth Amboy. The annual Christmas Bazaar was help on Nov. 24th, one day only, where the Guild members sold crafts prepared all year long, every Monday night. It was a great success.
