14 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ The Disco Dance of the CY.F. was not as successful on February 16th as in the past. Music was provided by George Opra. The C.Y.F. had several ski excursions during the excellent skiing weather. The Men’s Guild will have a hurka kolbász sale on March 29th. The Sunday School had two bus excursions, one to the Detroit Historical Museum and another to the Shriner Circus. The Ladies’ Aid Society reelected all former officers for another term. The pancake breakfast of the Golden Circle Club is scheduled for Sunday, BETHLEHEM, PA. Our congregational meeting was held on January 28th. Officers are: Chief Elder Mr. Balint Balogh, secretary Mr. Steve Turoczy, treasurer Mr. Steve Toth, auditor Mr. László Fekete. Newly elected elders are: Mr. Balint Balog Jr., and Mr. Frank Athis. Elders serving unexpired terms are: Mr. John Mihály, Mr. Andrew Turoczy, and Mr. Geza Vegh. The dinner honoring the elders will be held as soon as the weather permits. The income for the year was: $23,- 844.22; the expenses were: $22,451.53; The balance remaining is: $1,392.69. Statistics for 1978 is as follows: 1,800 members attended worship services. 241 members received the holy communion. The pastor made 260 family visitations and 133 hospital visitations. Threre were 2 adult conversions. The pastor officiated at the funerals of 5 members. The Lenten holy communion service was held on March 4th. 36 members participated at the Lord’s Supper. With a saddened heart we report that on February 20th Mrs. Joseph Eszes Ternyik passed away at the age of 88. She was born on September 10th, 1890 in Fejer county the village of Bodajk, Hungary. She was a faithful member of the church and the Ladies Aid Society. She was highly respected and much loved by the members and friends of the Bethlehem church and vicinity and they showed their respect by the large attendance at the funeral which was held on February 23rd. May God comfort the bereaved family. Easter holyday services: April 13, Good Friday Hungarian service 10:30 A.M., English communion service 7:00 P.M. April 15, Easter Sunday combined Hungarian and English Communion worship service 10:30 A.M. Our church met all its synodical obligations. Donations were sent to the Bethlen Home, and to the needy friends in South America and Erdély. CARTERET, N. J. The Annual Congregational meeting elected the following officers for the next three years: Leonard Sendelsky chief elder, Bela Kantor vice chief elder, Geza Megyesi treasurer, Michael Kovács, Jr. secretary, Helen Sheridan financial secretary; elders in the Class of 1981: Ben Matto, Geza Megyesi, Clinton Miller, Leonard Sendelsky, Helen Sheridan, Louis Tomori; alternates: Michael Breza, Alex George. The meeting also approved various building projects in Bethlen Hall — heat conversion, air conditioning, reroofing. Vital statistics for 1978: 6 baptisms, 2 weddings, 9 burials, 264 voting members, 486 total constituency including children. New officers of the Junior Women’s Guild: Mrs. Ann Balka president, Mrs. Fran Nagy vice-president, Mrs. Helen Kalash secretary, Mrs. Betty Matto corresponding secretary, Mrs. Ann Orenczak communications secretary, Mrs. Anna Marie Fuller treasurer, Mrs. Helen Dodge chaplain. The Guild conducted a very successful flea-market in Bethlen Hall. The Guild started a Hungarian Folk- Embroidery Class, open to the public. The weekly classes are attended by 15-20 women; Jolán and John Benga from Old Bridge, N.J. are the excellent instructors. Weddings: Charles Stephen Comba and Patricia Ann Holoob on January 6; Michael Richard Gelato and Linda Joyce Kovács on February 16. Burials: Mrs. Joseph Bartko (Helen Toth), 51, bom in Kisvárda, on December 16, 1978; Albert Kovács, 80, born in Kisgéres, Zemplén county, on January. DUQUESNE, PA. Our 1979 congregational meeting was held on January 28th, after a combined worship service in spite of adverse weather conditions. The meeting reelected the officers, and elected Andrew Wargo Sr. to the church council. Because of unpredictable weather conditions this time of the year, meeting decided to hold congregational meetings from now on on the last Sunday of October. Fellowship dinner will be held on the same day. Special, honorary, etc. membership duties and rights, also were defined. Funerals: Mrs. Sue Sabo on February 12th, Louis Rekasi on February 13th. Both members were interred in our cemetery. Louis Rekasi made our congregation the beneficiary of a $1,000.00 policy. The treasurer received the proceeds of the policy. During Lent we will hold vesper services each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Lenten Communion was observed on the first Sunday of Lent. 123 members received the Holy Elements. Easter holiday schedule: Holy week: Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. vespers, Maundy Thursday at 7:30 communion, Good Friday we will participate in the community worship service from noon until 3:00 p.m. and we will have our own worship service at 7:30 p.m. On Easter Sunday we will have Hungarian Worship Service at 9:30 a.m., English at 11 a.m. Both services will be held with Holy Communion. McKeesport, pa. On January 7 the newly elected officers and members of Church Council, Women’s Guild, Social Activities Club and Christian Fellowship were installed during the English service. On January 11 our Women’s Guild gave a dinner at the Salvation Army. Beginning from January 21st the time of the Sunday School was changed. Instead of 8:45 a.m. it starts now at 10:00 a.m., together with the English service. The Pastor prepares a special children’s sermon for them, then they leave for their rooms to have their regular lessons. The purpose of this change was to increase the children’s participation in the worship service. We held our Annual Congregational Meeting on February 4 instead of January 28, because of the bad weather. The Christian Fellowship held a Bake Sale on February 18. We had our Annual Congregational Dinner on February 25, after combined service. March 4, the first Sunday of Lent, we administered the Lord’s Supper. 116 members of our congregation partook of the Body and Blood of our Lord. Funerals: we buried two sisters of ours in 1979. The funeral of Mrs. Susan Simon was on January 20. Mrs. Mary Toth was buried on February 14. May God give his consolation to the bereaved families. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. On the last Sunday of January we held our Annual Congregational meeting at which time the accomplishments of the past year was evaluated and plans for the coming year were made.
