MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 I AM YOUR FLAG I am your flag. I was born on June 14, 1777. I am more than just cloth shaped into a design. I am the refuge of the world’s oppressed people. I am the silent sentinel of freedom. I am the emblem of the greatest sovereign nation on earth. 1 am the inspiration for which American patriots gave their lives and fortunes. I have led your sons into battle from Valley Forge to Vietnam. I walk in silence with each of your honored dead to their final resting place, Beneath the silent, white crosses, row upon row. 1 have flown through peace and war, strife and prosperity and amidst it all, 1 have been respected. My red stripes symbolize the blood spilled in defense of this glorious nation. My white stripes signify the burning tears shed bv Americans who lost their sons. My blue field is indicative of God’s heaven under which I fly. My stars clustered together unify fifty states as one for God and Country. Old Glory is my name and proudly I wave on high. Honor me. Respect me. Defend me witli your lives and your fortunes. Never let mine enemies tear me down from my lofty position lest I never return. Keep alight the fires of patriotism. Strive earnestly for the spirit of Democracy. Worship Eternal God and kep His Commandments. And I shall remain the bulwark of peace and freedom for all mankind. For I am your flag. Excerpts from: PENNSYLVANIANS FOR HUMAN LIFE Unrelenting opposition to abortion has been the stance of Christians throughout history. Serious study proves that the Christian heritage is one of constant rejection of abortion on scriptural, theological and moral grounds. The atrocious murder of the unborn was deplored by Protestant churchmen from the outset of the Reformation. As the outstanding theologian of the Reformed Churches, the position of John Calvin against abortion set the pace for these — known in the United States as Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, Congregational, Christian Reformed, etc. The Roman Catholic position has been so frequently stated by them and I he abortionist that it need not he restated here. A significant segment of the religious community, the Orthodox Christians, also claim to have been opposed to abortion over the centuries. Today, Christian priests and ministers are in the forefront of the anti-abortion movement. Standing in the tradition of the prophets, their voices echo the wisdom of the ages and today’s faithful response of mankind to the creative love of God. I have met ministers of all churches who in their diversity have united against abortion. Conservative and liberal ministers have noted that the lutheran bishops of Norway are unanimous in rejection of it. Billy Graham and the editors of Christianity, have also openly declared their aversion to this unnatural act. Protestant scholars in seminaries around the country have also objected -— from Harvard, Princeton, Southern Methodist, Dubuque, Westminster, etc. There are always those collaborators in every generation who conform to the world, and there are those who reaffirm God’s graces and cherish the life he gives. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed is the name of the Lord. Rev. Albert W. Kovács ☆ ☆
