MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO On March 11th 152 church members participated in the Holy Communion services. On March 18th, Sunday, we cele­brated the 125th Anniversary of the Hungarian Freedom Fight. Our main speaker was Dr. Árpád Banda, profes­sor at the University of Akron. His speech was very interesting. Hugo Pfahler and Csanád Batizy recited beautiful poems. There is a Hungarian language school in our church. The teacher is Gyula Egervári, our councilman. Presently we have 32 participants. We received two big donations during the last month for the purposes of our Lorantffy Care Center. Elizabeth Nagy donated 1,000 dollars in memory of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nagy and Mrs. István Mező donated 1,000 dollars in memory of her beloved husband Ist­ván Mező. May God bless the donors and the memories of our beloved mem­bers. Our minister visited the McKeesport church council during last month. With the chief elder of the classis, Mr. Char­les Boné, he visited our Windsor church council in Canada. Funerals: Alex Yambor, 68, on March 3rd and Mrs. Julia Miskár, 91, on March 12th. May God comfort their loved ones. Our Easter Holiday Worship schedule is as follows: Good Friday, April 20, 1973 7 P.M. combined worship service, Easter Sunday, April 22 9:30 A.M. Hungarian Holy Communion service, 11 A.M. English Holy Communion service. Easter Monday: Holy Communion for sick members. ALLEN PARK, MICH. The Annual Report for 1973 has been completed. Total giving in 1972 was $102,604. Of this amount $65,507 was from individuals, $27,108 from church organizations and $9,989 from other sources. These are net figures and do not include safekeeping or so-called in and out items. Our church register notes that in 1972 there were 26 baptisms, 12 marriages and 16 members deceased. Fourteen young people were confirmed. Three Elders were elected and in­stalled: Arpad Szucs, Daniel Kovács and Victor Indre, Jr. Elder Alex Nadas was elected to serve as a vice president of the congregation. The Pastor spoke at the Hungarian Culture Program of nearby Aquinas High School. He was also reelected treasurer of the Allen Park Council of Churches in which our congregation maintains membership. “One Great Hour of Sharing” as in the past, was a feature of our church’s Lenten program of extending aid to our Hungarian brethren. The Confirmation Class of 14 young people will be formally examined at the Palm Sunday Service, which is to be held at 10 a.m. Holy Week services will be held on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Saturday, all at 7:30 p.m. Easter Day the English service will be at 9:30 a.m., the Hungarian at 11 a.m. The Lord’s Supper will be administered at both services. Shut-ins will also be communed the week before Easter, families are asked to contact the Pastor in advance. The Annual Masonic Sunday Service will be held on Sunday, April 29. Hungarian Reformed hymns and songs of praises from the XVIth cen­tury and modern religious songs were parts of both worship services on Feb­ruary 25. Ferenc Béres was the soloist whose performance was greatly enjoyed by all. The chimes-system of the church tower originally dedicated in memory of Mrs. Helen Pokol was recently re­built by adding a new automatic cas­sette. It is now a joint memorial for Mrs. Helen Pokol and Mrs. Marge Dalyai and operates every night dif­fusing hymns played by carillonic bells. 1973 is the 70th anniversary year of the establishment of the Carteret Church. The Church Council decided to have a Service of Thanksgiving on the anniversary Sunday, September 16, and an Anniversary Banquet on Satur­day, October 27. Sister churches are requested to keep these dates open. DUQUESNE, PA. Weddings: Joseph Voros and Eliza­beth Luptak, February 24th. James Quinn and Karen Demes on March 10th. Funeral: Mrs. Frank Poliak, on March 1st. Communion was celebrated on March 11th, first Sunday in Lent. 150 mem­bers received the Holy Elements in church and in their homes. This was the first occasion that communion was administered by individual cups in the Hungarian church service, retaining the old-time custom of using one chalice, also. This assures the members of a free choice. On April 1st there will be a Lay­men’s Conference in Homestead. The main speaker will be Richard Heyz, our chief elder. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. The annual congregational meeting elected Mr. Miklós Magyar, Jr. as Chief Elder, Mr. Gabriel Silagyi and Mr. William R. Schurr as First and Second Vice-Presidents, Mr. John S. Kovács, Jr., Treasurer, and Mr. Wil­liam Orosz, Secretary. Thanks and ap­preciation was expressed to Mr. John Marincsak who served as President for 11 years. The elders and officers took their official oath on Sunday, March 4th when they participated in corporate Holy Communion followed by a Coffee Hour hosted by the Christian Youth Fellowship in their honor. The Women’s Guild observed the 26th anniversary of their organization and participated in corporate Holy Com­munion on the first Sunday in March. Our guest minister for Sunday, March 4th was the Reverend Ernest M. Kosa, Lt. Colonel, Chaplain from Fort Dix, who recently retired after 20 years of service. A special congregational meeting was held on Sunday, March 25th, after a combined service where plans for the observance of the 75th anniversary of the church and the general “renovation projects” were discussed. The annual spring “Chinese Auction” sponsored by the Women’s Guild is scheduled for Friday, April 6th begin­ning at 7:30 p.m. in our Center. Lenten Banks were mailed to our members.
