MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13 NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO During the past 3 months our mem­bers and friends donated 16,200 dollars for the Lorantffy Care Center. The con­struction of the 100 bed Center should start during the summer months. For information write to: Lorantffy Care Center, 2631 Copley Rd., Akron, Ohio, 44321. July 9th is the date of our annual musical picnic. The picnic place is: Saint Nicholas Park, 1051 Robinson Ave., Barberton, Ohio. Our church pic­nic is the greatest Hungarian Picnic around Akron. Our Youth Group participated in the Ohio and Western Pennsylvania Youth Conference on May 7th, 1972 at the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church. On May 18th our minister visited the Duquesne congregation and attended on the council meeting in Duquesne. Funeral: On May 18th we buried Mrs. Julia Koronczay, 76. May God comfort her loved ones. ALLEN PARK, MICH. April was marked by many activities. The Church Council of 50 elected el­ders and 14 honorary officers, led by Chief Elder Andrew Faragó, reorganiz­ed itself into committees and engaged in serious study of the church and its mission in the modern world. Twelve of our .dedicated men gave valuable time to preparing our extensive grounds for the growing season. The Sunday School, ably led by Mr. Ernest Kaplar, has enjoyed a fine sea­son of service. Its annual card party was well attended, all proceeds were designated to the maintenance and ex­tension of our Christian education pro­gram. The Masonic Sunday service and din­ner were held on April 23. Mr. Edmund Vig, President of the English Congre­gation, served as Toastmaster for the Dinner. We were honored by the pres­ence of many notables, including the former Grand Master of the State of Michigan, the Mayor of Allen Park and Mr. Gregory Olah, member of our con­gregation and a 33d degree Mason. Many thanks to Mrs. George Kovács and the ladies and men who did such a great job of preparing and serving this gala meal to over 500 guests. The Church Council acted to approve the special autumn Sundays for the American Hungarian Studies Founda­tion and for the Bethlen Home of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. Both causes will be recom­mended to our congregation as worthy of their support. Youth groups are concerned with the annual Bethlen Youth Federation Con­ference which will be held in New Jersey this year. Plans are underway for definite projects to raise funds to cover traveling expenses for our church delegates to this annual program of study and recreation. In the first four months of 1972 we have had 8 baptisms, 7 infants and 1 adult; 3 weddings and 7 deaths. We have received into communicant mem­bership 9 adults and 14 young people through confirmation. Since this con­gregation relocated in Allen Park in 1965 membership has shown a constant increase. Without a doubt ours is, at the present time, the largest Hungarian Reformed congregation in the free world. This growth has ben achieved without watering down membership re­quirements or theological standards! Baptisms: April 9, Jennifer Lynn Gall; April 16, Michael Allen Moore. Weddings: April 21, William P. White and Rita Ramirez; April 30, Stefan Farkas and Marlene Lotoczky. Deaths: Arthur Borgondy, vice pres­ident of the Golden Circle Club, died on April 13. Joseph Major, retired en­gineer and gifted artist died on April 29. Many of his fine paintings grace our church buildings. New Members: April 9, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kassay; April 16, Mr. Paul Da­­roczy and his fiancee, Miss Joyce K. Craig. Our congregation continues to sup­port the missionary work of our church in Argentina. At the same time it takes full responsibility for its role as a constituent member of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America, its par­ent denomination. $150 was received this spring for the annual One Great Hour of Sharing appeal and forwarded to the denominational treasurer, Mr. Albert St. Miklossy. We would like to thank all those who helped to prepare and served at the church dinner and the dinner at the Classis Meeting. The first rose bush to our church garden was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Balint Balogh. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Biro volunteered to fix up the garden which will require a lot of work. Mrs. James Kovary is still in the hospital. Guest ministers who served at our church: Rev. Paul Ferenczy and Rt. Rev. Louis Nagy, Superintendent of the Bethlen Home. Weddings: On April 28, Robert S. Erdie and Mary Ida Apgar. May God bless the newlyweds. Robin Csizma played on the organ at the wedding service. CARTERET, N. J. The spring quarterly conference of the Eastern Area Youth Federation was held in Carteret, April 16. The theme presentation on “Today’s Man and Wo­man in the Home, at Work, and in the Church” by a Carteret couple, Elder Francis Ullersberger and church school teacher Mrs. Elsie Ullersberger was well received and generated a lively discussion. The number of young peo­ple in attendance, about 45, was lower than at other times. Ten young people have been admit­ted to confirmation examination on Ascension Day. Confirmation is sche­duled to take place on Mother’s Day, first communion on Pentecost Sunday. Preparations for the 50th annivers­ary of the Lorantffy Society on June 4 are well under way. Reservations should be made for the 1:30 dinner. Dean Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, Chief Elder John Nemish, Secretary Frank Vérségi and Treasurer Walter Kovács have been returned to their respective offices at the annual assembly of the Eastern Classis. Sixteen members of the Lorantffy Society attended the annual conference of United Church Women in New York, May 7th. DUQUESNE, PA. Funeral: Mrs. Lydia Silvassy, funeral service May 12th, interment in Warren, Ohio. Confirmation Sunday, May 14th was observed by admitting two girls and five boys to the communicant member­ship of our congregation. They were:
