10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 1971 and baptized on January 23, 1972. David, young son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Töltési, died on January 13. Our congregation shared in the grief of the beareaved family. Mr. Stephen Úsztok died on January 25th. He was a faithful representative of the William Penn. Burial took place from our church on January 28. He will be greatly missed by the community he served so faithfully. The Annual Congregational Meeting on February 6 accepted and approved the Financial Statement for 1971, expressed its vote of thanks to the retiring officers and elders, particularly to Louis J. Szabó who had served 20 years on the Church Council, and elected the following elders and officers: Stephen Comba, Sr., Béla Csutoros, Stephen Dorko, Sr., Louis Hollo, Alexander Peter, Menyhért Toth elders for three year terms; Harry Brand, Geza Lukach, William Lukach elders for one year term; Leonard Sendelsky chief elder, Francis Ullersberger and Béla Kántor vice-chief elders, Frank Vérségi secretary, Walter Kovács treasurer, Mrs. Helen Sheridan financial secretary. Other elders on the Church Council include Kent Dodge, Walter Kovács, Leonard Sendelsky, Louis Tömöri, Frank Vérségi, Michael Yeges (Class of 1972); Joseph Adam, Roy Jensen, Béla Kántor, John Nemish, Joseph Timari and Francis Ullersberger (Class of 1973). Funeral: Mrs. Joseph Szigeti (Elizabeth Bacsó), 70 after a long illness on February 3. DUQUESNE, PA. Our Congregational Meeting elected the following new officers: Chief Elder: Robert A. Szepesi. Assistant Elder for the English Congregation: Donald S. Koester. Newly elected council members are: Mrs. Eileen Halpern, Robert Kish, Alex Nagy Jr. The Meeting also established a Hymnal Fund and a Building and Maintenance Fund. The loan on our new organ, originally planned to be paid up in 5 years was paid in six months. As a continuation of improving the musical background to our worship services, new hymnals will be purchased. Steve Veland and his wife, nee Vilma Almassy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 25th. They were married in Donora, Pa. on February 25th, 1922, the Rev. Endre Sebestyen officiating. Daughter Charlotte and son Alexander and a grandson are the immediate family members. The Velands own the best Hungarian butcher shop in the area. McKeesport, pa. Our Congregational Meeting and Dinner were held on Sunday, January 16. The new officers and elders were installed the following Sunday. Officers are: John Kontz chief elder, Steve T. Balogh and Andrew Toth vice chief elders, Albert Bertok secretary, Robert Jordanhazy treasurer, Louis Jardanhazy recording treasurer. New elders are: Steve T. Balogh, John Canelle, Andrew Fedor, Louis Jardanhazy, Robert Jordanhazy, John Kontz and Andrew Toth. Income for 1971 is $53,654.20, expenses are $45,915.10, balance for 1972 is $7,739.10. Income for the Building Fund is $20,965.30. Our annual report says: “We made a giant step in 1971. We have started the building of our new church. It is God who is the Builder of our new church. We are only his helpers. We are grateful to God for this great priviledge and honor. There is no easy way to build a new church. It is true in our case too. The building of our new church call for our personal sacrifices. Our loyalty, dedication and donations need to be built into the walls of our new church. All this we need to do that we may have a place to worship, classrooms to teach our children and facilities necessary for Hungarian Reformed Christians living in the space age.” Officers of Youth Fellowship are: Gloria Orris president, Steven Balogh vice president, Karen Jordanhazy secretary (417 Jane Claire Drive, Markvue Manor, Irvin, Pa. 15642), Cheryl Balogh secretary. Our young people meet every second Sunday at 6:30 p. m. We conduct worship services every Thursday at 7 p. m. during Lent. We have received the following donations: St. Stephen Hungarian Roman Catholic Church $500, Willig Funeral Home $200, Check Funeral Home $35 and Julius Lenart Agency $25. We are grateful for these donations. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. At the annual congregational meeting, on Sunday January 23rd, the following were re-elected: John Marincsák chief elder, Miklós Magyar, Jr. vice president, John S. Kovács, Jr. treasurer, William Orosz secretary. Elders: Steven J. Deák, Andrew and Joseph Orosz, Gabriel Szilágyi, Alex Varga; newly elected elders: William Schurr and Andrew Lovász. Thanks and appreciation to Joseph Bányácski and Frank Varga, who did not wish to serve for another term. Members of the Church Council participated in “corporate” holy communion, on Sunday February 6th, when officers and elders took their official oath. The Women’s Guild honored all leaders of the church organizations with a dinner, on Sunday January 30th. This year, 1972, will mark the anniversary of the organization of the Women’s Guild; the members are making plans to celebrate the silver anniversary. The congregational meeting decided to redecorate the church, install a new rug, and start an “air-conditioning fund” for the Center. Women’s Guild officers for 1972: Lorraine Magyar president, Elsie Loki vice president, Margaret Seemann secretary, Lorraine Blaho treasurer, Helen Bercik chaplain, Margaret Ábrahám advisor. This year, the Hungarian Independence Day celebration will be held on Sunday, March 19th, in the Mindszenty Hall, by participation of all Hungarian churches of the city. The month of February in our Congregation was filled with the many elections in our Women’s Guild and Church Council. Our new Chief-Elder for the year 1972 will be Bert Somogyi, Jr., with Bertalan Bartha, Steve Bajzath and James Gilanyi as our Vice-Chief Elders. Our Treasurer is Joseph Bartha, and also re-elected were Allen Birkholz as English Secretary and John Kollar as Hungarian Secretary. Three new Church Council members were added to those re-elected from the previous year. We welcome Andrew Csanyi, John Csanyi and Elmer Soltész.
