MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 15 Vatican Supports Common Bible Translation The Holy See lias given $25,000 towards the preparation of a Bilde translation acceptable to both Protestants and Roman Catholics. Cardinal Jan Willebrands, president of the Secretariat for Promoting Christian Unity, made the gift to the United Bible Societies, which groups 49 national associations. The Catholic Church is now helping with 110 of the 610 translations being undertaken in foreign languages by the Bible Societies. Meanwhile in New York the American Bible Society has launched an appeal for funds to send Scriptures to Nigeria to replace those lost during the civil conflict. Some $200,000 is being sought to supply 250,000 Bibles, 55,000 New Testaments, 360,000 Gospels and Gospel portions and 1,000 Scripture selections. This aid will he channelled through the Bible Society of Nigeria. Common Date for Easter Specialists considering the possibility of a common date for Easter at the request of the WCC Faith and Order Commission held their third meeting near Geneva March 16-20. They found two possibilities: fix the date on the first Sunday following the full moon of the spring, or the Sunday following the second Saturday in April. If the latter were chosen, Easter could take place any time between April 9 and 15. It was suggested the WCC continue consulting its member churches and make a definite proposal when sufficient support is assured for either date. THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF BRAZIL — with a communicant membership of some 130,000, reports the construction of 47 new church buildings, and the formation of 49 new congregations during the past two years. NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO Our Easter Sunday worship services were very well attended. 210 participated in the Holy Communion service, 15 received the Holy Communion in hospitals and homes. Our Easterday income was over 1,000 dollars. Baptized: On March 15th, baptized Joseph Mark infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rutherford. Godparents are Leonard and Dolly Palmer. The parents of the newly baptized are our church officers, the grandparents our faithful church members, while the greatgrandparents were among the founders of our church. May God bless very richly the baby and his family. Funerals: Mrs. Susanna Demeter, 82, on March 21st from our church. Mrs. Demeter was the member of the First Hungarian Reformed Church during the 1920’s. Alex Body, 73, on March 21st and Andrew Rinn, 60, on April 7. May God bless their memory among us! We have a Hungarian radio service on radio station WZAK (93.1 FM) every second Monday evening at 7:30. On March 30th, we had a .special meeting to coordinate the work of our church organizations. CARTERET, N. J. Easter Sunday attendance was greatly reduced by the untimely snow storm, the Holy Thursday communion service, however, was well attended. Donatinons were not affected by the weather, Palm Sunday to Easter receipts well exceeded $2,000. The Junior Women’s Guild is planning various activities, among them a Mother’s Day Social for May 7th. The examination of confirmands will take place following the 7 o’clock evening worship service on Ascension Day; their confirmation will be Sunday, May 10, 9:30, first communion together with members of their families on Pentecost Sunday. Miller and Judith AnD Varga, godparents Stephen Varga and Nancie Varga. DETROIT-ALLEN PARK, MICHIGAN Easter was indeed a joyous occasion in the life of our congregation. We again experienced the manifold blessings of God and our hope for the future was renewed by the fact of the Resurrection. The Easter Sunday attendance at both services was nearly 1200, of whom 907 took part in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The holiday offering was $13,000. Our guest during the Holy Days was Seminarian Stefán Török, who received a gift of $615 from the members of the congregation. We thank him for his services. On Palm Sunday 28 young persons were confirmed and received into the communicant membership of the church. They partook of the Lord’s Supper for the first time on Easter Sunday. Your church is grateful. Thank you! On May 7th, Ascension Thursday, services will be held at 11 A.M. The Golden Circle Club is sponsoring a Family Night Banquet on May 7th at 6 P.M. On May 10th we will observe Mothers Day at both services. AM mothers in attendance will receive a floral tribute.
