YOUTH NEWS Bethlen Youth Federation On November 21 and 22 the East and the West classes of the B.Y.F. got together for the first business meeting of the federation’s new officers. As we gathered none of us realized that a “special” meeting was being “planned” after our regular business meeting. Several new ideas were brought forward at the meeting on Saturday. One that is already functioning is the just formed B.Y.F. choir, which is being directed by Miss Andrea Anderson from Trenton church, who is presently attending a school for music. Our choir debut was at the Akron church service. Although I do not know how we sounded, I do know each one of us rededicated our lives to Jesus Christ as we sang the humbling words “Take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to Thee”. Also at this service several of our members saw a “coincident” of our Lord’s when the text for the sermon turned out to be the same text they discussed the night before. McKeesport informed us that next year’s Labor Day camp-site will be in the suburbs of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. The topic, which is yet to be announced, is receiving quite a lot of attention at their club. Julie Engi, President of the Trenton club, announced a B.Y.F. New Year’s Eve Party. Julie not only wants both the East and West to have fun together, but she also hopes that this party will be another step in bringing our federation closer in friendship and fellowship. Aside from the business, I think the real learning, the Spiritual learning, took place Saturday night when there was an impromptu “rap session”. The Lord gave each of us this time to search our hearts and our minds to rediscover what Jesus Christ means to us. And when everybody got “warmed up”, and let down those superficial barriers that keep people from really knowing each other, “heavy sounds” really began to fly. Some members discovered “loopholes” in their concept of God and Christ, and other members saw that they had never really considered religion seriously enough. Our quiet peers had a chance to watch and listen, while the noisy ones took their stands on their faith and their interpretations of Christ’s teachings. We discussed topics ranging from church denominations, to morality, to accepting the Holy Spirit into one’s heart. And the only time we were sorry was when the discussion had to come to an end. With all the diversified opinions there was one fact that we did agree upon; even if it was that there are as many ways to follow Christ’s example as there are Christians. And this is the way God wants us to be. We are His special children, and each one of us bears a different name, a different outlook, a different life style, and a different purpose — but, still, we are united in Him through Jesus Christ.
