Dr. László Bényei, director of the immigration department of the Australian Council of Churches spoke at both services on June 1st. Dr. Bényei, who has settled many Hungarian Reformed people in Australia, made a stopover in the United States on his way to an international conference on immigration in Europe. Some small innovations made the Sunday School closing exercises more meaningful. First, each department gave a brief report on the main theme of the last year’s curriculum (Living in Covenant with God); second, the words of all hymns were recited by the students before the congregational singing. Mrs. Geza Lukach received her 16th year Crown and Cross-bar as a teacher. After the service the entire congregation (together with those coming for the Hungarian service) joined for refreshments on the church lawn. Summer schedule: English service at 9:30, Hungarian at 10:30. The church is air-conditioned. Funeral: Mrs. Corinne Brandt Comba, wife of Stephen Comba, Sr. on June 11th. DUQUESNE, PA. 186 members received communion during the Pentecost Season; 8 shutins received the holy elements in their homes. Our bazaar on June 6 and 8 was a complete success. All church organizations participated in this effort. Our Sunday School picnic took place on June 22. The Men’s Club will hold its summer meetings in our cemetery-park combined with “szalonna-sütés.” Baptism: on Father’s Day, Doreen Adair, daughter of David Stockett andCheryl Shimo. Godparents: James and Dianne Stockett. McKeesport, pa. 193 members and 12 shut-ins received the holy elements in the Pentecost Season. Baptism: David Ernest, son of Capt. Larry D. Richards and Donna Fazekas. Godparents: Russell E. Richards, San Diego, Calif, and Lynne Serfozo. Stephen Frank, son of the Rev. Aladár Komjáthy and Ilonka Molnár. Godparents: Rev. Louis Nagy and Dorothy Molnár (Passaic, N. J.). The following 13 boys and girls were confirmed: Stephen Douglas Balogh, George Jay Barati, Frank Barco, Robin Lynn Fejes, Thomas Duane Gatchie, Russell Stephen Gibson, Allen Richard Hallick, Bruce Wayne Jordanhazy, Karen Lee Jordanhazy, Pamela Adele Mihal, Cynthia Louise Serfozo, David Brian Sheedy and Earl Howard Starry. The following were our high school graduates: Eric Balogh, Norman Banis, Debbie Jordanhazy, Allan Jordanhazy, Jack Kerti, Alex Meszar, Debbie Orris, Keith Phillips and Joseph Stepansky. Elected to be members of the National Honor Society Alex Meszar and Sándor E. Chomos, Jr. College graduates: Albert Banes, Ernest Fazekas, Jr„ William Banis. Karl Alexander graduated from lawschool and passed his bar-examination. Congratulations to our graduating youth. Vacation Bible School attendance was 55. The closing exercise was held on June 20th. Our thanks to Alex Meszar, the director and teacher of the VBS, and to Mrs. Mary Brindza, the organizer of the VBS. Our special thanks to our organist, John Orosz, Jr. The Sunday School picnic was held on June 22nd in Renzie Park. The Women’s Club sponsored a banquet on Mother’s Day in honor of our mothers. They also hosted a dinner for the poor people of our city, through the Salvation Army. The minister proclaimed the Word of God at the 44th anniversary of the Hungarian Lutheran Church of Hazelwood, and at the installation service of Rev. Dr. Aladar Komjáthy, at Montreal, Canada. On Father’s Day the minister served at Montreal; in his absence, the local college students served at the worship service. James Balogh, Jr. preached the sermon; the following participated in the liturgy: Alex Meszar, Alan Pogyor, Dennis Caiarelli and John Olyarnik, Jr. The Rev. Bela Pohoczky substituted the minister at the Hungarian worship service. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. The Christian Youth Fellowship will sponsor an “Honor the Graduate” banquet on July 1. Young people, parents and interested members are invited. Holy Communion at both services will be held on Sunday, July 6. The Vacation Bible School started on Monday, June 30 and will be held until July 11 in our Center. Miss Marlene B. Wolff and George E. Kiemle were united in marriage on June 22. The marriage of Miss Melinda Nagyhetényi and John Bentley will take place in our church on Saturday, July 12 at 3:00 P.M. May God bless the young couples! Baptisms: John Michael, son of John J. They participated in Holy Communion at Pentecost with their parents and relatives. Many thanks and appreciation to Miss Carolyn Kosa, our Sunday School superintendent who cooperated very faithfully. The service was conducted by the Rev. August Molnár. The Mother’s Day dinner was a real success on May 11, arranged by the Women’s Guild. We also held a Father’s Day dinner on June 15. Wedding: Nancy Szabó and Robert Edward Pelkus were united in marriage in our church on June 8. The witnesses were Robert Sterling and Judith Szabó. The Sunday worship service hours in July and August will change according to our last year system: English service at 9 A.M., Hungarian service at 10 A.M. The Pastor was hospitalized for two weeks and underwent surgery. He thanks for all your kindness expressed by visits and get well cards.
