MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 15 church. Rev. Kalman Gondocz was elected secretary, John Waros, Sr., chief-elder, commissioner to the Gen­eral Assembly. At the morning service on March 23rd the Rev. Alexander Daroczy, superintendent of the Bethlen Home, was our guest minister. James Kovary, Jr., the son of our secretary left for duty in Europe. Andrew Gondocz and Roberta Csizma sang during the Easter Sun­day worship service. CARTERET, N. J. There were close to 300 communi­cants at Easter services. The newly formed Men’s A-Capella Choir sang for the first time while Andrew Har­­sanyi, Jr. sang Bach’s “Jesus, Joy of Men’s Desire” as a solo. István Tö­rök, our “legátus” preached at three Hungarian services. The Holy Thurs­day evening communion service was very well attended. Presidents of all church organiza­tions and the Superintendent of the Sunday School have been invited to attend all regular meetings of the church council as consulting mem­bers. Six young people will be confirmed in their Christian faith at the May 18 morning worship service. They will participate in holy communion for the first time on Pentecost Sun­day. Members of Americus Chapter, Or­der of DeMolay, attended the worship service in our church on March 16 in a body. A young member of our congregation, Joseph W. Mitro is their Master Counselor this year. Baptism: Alisa Ann, daughter of Joseph Palasthy and his wife Viola Marie Merrell on March 9; Erwin and Elizabeth Huszár are the godparents. Funeral: Mrs. Paul Gaydos (Jolán Kovács), born in Nyirtass, Szabolcs county and a member of the church for many decades, 66 years old, on April 1st. Molnár on March 12, Margaret G. Molnár on March 15, Mrs. Andrew Kun, Sr. on March 24, Mrs. Stephen Enesey on April 5. DUQUESNE, PA. 275 members received communion during the Easter Season; 10 shut-ins received the holy elements in their homes. Funeral: John Lengyel on March 29th; interment in our cemetery. The entire church building was re­painted under the leadership of our officers. The work was done by vol­untary, but expert labour. This pro­ject is part of our plans for the mortgage-burning in the fall. Future plans: Mother’s Day dinner on May 11th, after sacrifices. Pro­gram by the Jr. Youth Fellowship, dinner by the Men’s Club. May 18th: Confirmation. This year we have a class of 12 boys and girls. May 25th, Pentecost, will mark their first communion. By accepted cus­tom, they will take communion with their parents and god-parents, just as they received the sacrament of bäptism in their company. Bela Pohoczky will be our guest student minister for the Pentecost holidays. June 6 and 8 will be the date of our first bazaar in years. Details will be published later. October 12th is the date of our mortgage-burning festivities. Please mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend. McKeesport, pa. 155 members and 6 shut-ins re­ceived the holy elements at our Len­ten Communion. 355 members and 22 shut-ins at Easter. Baptism: Mary, daughter of Joseph Marczinko and Shirley Fedor; god­parents: Andrew Fedor, Jr. and Mrs. John Fedor. Burial: Mrs. Elizabeth Nagy, the “tiszteletes asszony” of our congre­gation, born in Csiz, Gomor county, at the age of 48. The following min­isters officiated at the funeral: for­mer bishop Dr. Zoltán Beky, Prof. Dr. László Harangi, Bishop Dezső Ab­raham, the Rev. Alexander Daroczy, former arch-dean, Dr. John Butosi, president of the Calvin Synod, Dr. Stephen Szabó, hon. president of the Synod, the Rev. Arpad George, vice­­president of the Synod, the Rev. Ste­phen Kovács, general secretary, the Rev. Tibor Toth, dean, the Rev. Alex­ander Marton, hon. dean, the Rev. Aron Elek, classis president, the Rev. Stephen Szőke, former dean, the Rev. Nicholas Wesselényi. 25 ministers were present at the funeral. — Mrs. Bertalan Gaal, nee Elizabeth Kish, born at Deda, Bereg county, 60 years ago. Burial was on March 19. — Mrs. Benjamin Hadar, nee Elizabeth Mate, at the age of 70, born at Bereguj­­falu, Bereg county. The Rev. Dr. László Berzeviczy (McKeesport) and the Rev. Louis Illés (Duquesne) of­ficiated. — William Toth, member of the Church Council, former chief el­der, at the age of 71, on April 4. He was born at Tiszakerecseny, Bereg viczy (McKeesport) and the Pastor County. The Rev. Dr. László Berze­officiated. Bela Pohoczky was our “legátus” in the Easter Season. He was born at Harmac, Gomor county. He was ac­cepted generously by the congrega­tion for his preaching, organ play­ing. A banquet is being planned to honor our mothers, after the services on Mother’s Day, May 11th. Confirmation will be on May 18th. On this Sunday the Hungarian wor­ship service will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the English worship service at 10:30 a.m. NILES, OHIO (Southside United Presbyterian Church) We had a record attendance at both services on Easter morning, also many visitors. The Senior Sunday School class dramatized the story of the resurrection. We lost two of our members during the month of March: Mrs. Frank (Matilda) Chito assist. Sunday School teacher, 38 years old and James F. Potoky, 22 years old young man who came home from Vietnam just a year ago. The pastor of this congregation was elected by the Hungarian United Church of Christ in Phoenixville, Pa. He delivered his farewell ser­mon in Niles on April 13, and the congregation said goodbye to its pas­tor and family during an Open House in the afternoon. Dr. Sewell served the Niles church for six years. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. It was a joy to celebrate Easter holiday with 570 people participating in Holy Communion; 404 at the Eng­lish and 139 at the Hungarian ser­vices; 27 sick at home and in hos­pitals. Our Christian Youth Fellowship issued a special newspaper for Easter, 12 pages, which was well re­ceived by the members. On Maundy Thursday the youth retreat was at­tended by 23 persons. The Women’s Guild sponsored a successful “Chinese auction” for the benefit of the National Youth Con­ference. Thanks to all who helped. The two womens organizations made special donations during Easter: to the Glory of God; for flowers; for One Great Hour of Sharing, Mission Fund, for the support of the church in Montevideo, Uruguay, South America.
