MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 19 Jesus: Let the children first be fed, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs. Mother: Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs. Jesus: Woman, for this saying you may go your way. The demon has left your daughter. Mother: O, be your name blessed, my Lord! Jesus: Go with peace. Narrator: The mother went home. She ran as fast as she could. What will she see? She went straight into Deborah’s room. Deborah: Mother? Mother: Deborah, darling, are you all right? Deborah: Surely, why not? Mother: You were so sick that I thought you would die. Deborah: Was I? I don’t remember. Mother, I’m so hungry! May I have something to eat, and a big, big glass of milk? Mother: The Lord heard my supplication. He talked to me, He looked down at me. He brought my little daughter back to life. For this 1 will love Him, I will believe in His Name, and I will praise Him until the last day of my life. ☆ The Rev. Ákos G. Papp, a former minister of the Reformed Church in Hungary, who spent about a decade in the United States serving Presbyterian, Evangelical United Brethren and United Methodist Churches, accepted an invitation from the Conservatory in Jyvaskyla, Finland, to become a member of its faculty. Readers of Magyar Egyház have enjoyed both, his meditations in Hungarian and his biblical playlets in English. We shall see more of them coming now from Finland. The Papps — Mrs. Papp is the daughter of a Finnish Lutheran pastor — left with their two children in mid-August.
