MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13 NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS Elders’ Conference Elders of the Eastern and New York Classes will convene for an Elders’ Conference Sunday, November 10, 2 p.m. in Trenton, N. J. John Marincsak will preside. “My Responsibility In Shaping the Future of My Church” will be the conference theme. Introductory addresses and discussions will take place in English and Hungarian language groups. AKRON, OHIO During the month of September we revitalized our youth work: we organized a children’s choir under the able leadership of Miss Rita Var go; the Youth Day dinner was very successful; a Hungarian boy scout troop was organized. Miss Mary Farkas, our former local youth group president became the vice president of the Bethlen Youth Federation. We are working on a picture year book in which the picture of every member of our church will he placed. The Rev. and Mrs. Árpád Bakay celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary among us. We blessed the marriage of George Toth and Mrs. Joanne Lidya Muzawsky in our church. Our new members: Mr. and Mrs. Larry Dudash, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kish, Mr. and Mrs. George Toth, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Var go, Jr. and their daughter Marilyn. BETHLEHEM, PA. Six of our young people participated in the 29th B.Y.F. Conference on Labor Day weekend. The purchase of a 27 acres land (farm), for $35,000, was decided on September 7th. Six of us attended in Perth Amboy the preparatory meeting for the coming Elders’ Conference. James F. Kovary, Jr. left for military service in August. His brother Frank is already in the service since June, 1967. CARTERET, N. J. During his recent European trip the Pastor visited several Hungarian Reformed ministers and other church functionaries, among them Mr. Friedrich Schumacher, the WCC-representative in Salzburg, Austria. During his absence, the Rev. Bertalan Szathmary supplied the Carteret pulpit while Mrs. Elsie Loke (Perth Amboy) substituted for Mrs. Harsanyi as organist. Dr. and Mrs. Harsanyi were honored at a surprise party upon their return with a gift presented jointly by the Board of Elders, the two women’s organizations and the Men’s Fellowship. All congregational organizations have begun their fall activities. There are only 65 children of Sunday School age and 10 young people in the two confirmation classes. The reason for this is that many young couples have moved out of the borough and send their children to Sunday Schools in local churches. Mrs. Alexander Peter is the new superintendent of the Sunday School. Teachers include Miss Margie Acs, Miss Ethel Papp, Miss Margaret Lukach, Mrs. William Lukach, Miss Gabriella Lengyel, Mrs. Géza Lukach and Mrs. Francis Ullersberger. The Board of Elders decided to renovate Bethlen Hall. The Junior Women’s Guild had a highly successful cake-sale. Baptism: David James, son of Alex Varga and his wife, Joan Nellie Brady; Joseph Moran and Mrs. Tibor Varga are godparents. Burials. Three of our aged members have passed away: Mrs. Andrew Nagy (Nudge), Mrs. Andrew Sipos and Mrs. Bertalan Oláh. They have been members of our congregation for 65, 53 and 69 years, respectively. Mrs. Olah was the last surviving charter member. 'i* The traditional annual dinner will be held Sunday, November 3 in Bethlen Hall. DETROIT-ALLEN PARK, MICHIGAN Worship services: Sunday mornings at 9:45 in English, at 11 o’clock in Hungarian; Sunday School and Bible Class at 8:45; Catechism Classes for confirmands every Saturday at 11 a.m. The Christian Youth Fellowships from the Western Classis held their Fall Conference in our church on October 12 and 13. Conference theme was the Fourth Commandment, speakers were the Rev. Tibor Toth and Mr. Zoltán Ambrus. A large stained glass window depicting events in the life of Christ has been installed in our church. The cost of the project was $7,200, fully paid from contributions of our church members. Dedication services will be held later in November. The semi-annual meeting of the Presbyterian/Reformed — Roman Catholic conversation group will take place in our church October 24-26. Next Holy Communion Sunday on November 2. The Golden Circle Club is sponsoring an Autumn Dance on October 26. The Annual Grape Festival Dance will be held November 1. DUQUESNE, PA. Baptism: on September 7th, Carey-Ann, daughter of John Harold and Regina Mansfield; godparents: Robert and Shirley Balias. Funerals: Mrs. Esther Olah on September 6th; internment in our cemetery; Mrs. Rachel Matyinko, on September 9th. The Men’s Club had its annual autumn bacon-fry in the park section of our cemetery on September 27th. Our Youth Fellowship is making csiga for their coming fellowship dinner. The members are working diligently several times every week. The Sunday School had a successful bake-sale on September 29th. W orld-wide Communion was held on October 6th. The fall fellowship dinner of our congregation will be held on October 27th. Slides will be shown by Kalman Helmeczi and the Pastor taken during their recent trip to Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Germany, and Austria.
