10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ MARK: You don’t have a house either! JOHN: My mother-in-law does. MARK: But it is not yours. ABNER: Why don’t you just say that you are poor, like any of us, and will never own a house! That’s why you love the beauty of the nature? Right? JOHN: I like to be a shepherd. I mean it. Nobody bothers me all day, my dogs are smart and take care of the sheep. I’m happy and satisfied and I’m not scared of anybody! MARK: Not even your own shadow would scare you, would it? JOHN: Don’t be funny! — O no! What’s that? You, you, stay away from me! Mark! Abner! See that? MARK: Who are you, whose unearthly figure is surrounded by such a splendor? ANGEL: I am the angel of the Lord. Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. CONGREGATION (singing) : Joy to the world, the Lord has come, Let earth receive her King! Let every heart prepare Him room, And heav’n and natule sing, And heav’n and nature sing, And heav’n, and heav’n and nature sing. Joy to the earth, the Saviour reigns! Let men their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains Repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat the sounding joy. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness, And wonders of His love, and wonders of His love, And wonders, and wonders of His love. ABNER: Where is He? JOHN: We want to see Him. How can we find Him? Tell us! ANGEL: This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. MARK: Look, a vast host of the armies of heaven is coming! They are singing! CONGREGATION (singing) : Hark! the herald angels sing: “Glory to the newborn King, Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled.” Joyful, all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies, With angelic hosts proclaim: "Christ is born in Bethlehem.’’ Hark! The herald angels sing: “Glory to the newborn King!” JOHN: The angels are gone. I’ve never seen such a thing in my life! ABNER: Are you still scared? JOHN: Well, I was! But you just keep quiet! Both of you! You were trembling just as much as I was. MARK: Get up men, let us go to Bethlehem! It isn’t far. We will be there in no time. JOHN: That’s right. Let us go! CONGREGATION (singin) :0 come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold Him, born the king of angels. O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord! Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation, O sing, all ye bright hosts of heav’n above; Glory to God, all glory in the highest. O come, let us adore Him, o come let us adore Him, o come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord! MARK: How do you think we will find the Baby? ABNER: The angel told us that He would be in a manger, wrapped in swaddling clothes. MARK: But in which part of the town? Will you knock at every door and ask? ABNER: I don’t know. JOHN: Don’t worry, men! The angel said that He was the Saviour, Christ, the Lord, And I’ll bet that if one wants to find Him, he won’t need a guide! ABNER: I agree. JOHN: I don’t know, why, but my heart tells me that we should go to the inn. MARK: Come on now, to the inn? JOHN: Yes, Listen to me. We’ll certainly not find a manger in the house, so why go into the house? There won’t be one in the court either. But there must be one in the cave because I know that it used to serve as a stable. ABNER: That makes sense. MARK: Let’s go to the cave! . . . Hush! I hear something. It’s a Baby! We found Him! We found Hind CONGREGATION (singing) : What Child is this, who laid to rest, On Mary’s lap is sleeping.? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, While shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Haste, haste to bring Him loud, The Babe, the Son of Mary. Why lies He in such mean estate, Where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear, for sinners here The silent Word is pleading: Nails, spear shall pierce Him through, The cross be borne, for me, for you; Hail, hail the Word made flesh, The Babe, the Son of Mary. So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh, Come peasant, king, to own Him; The King of kings salvation brings, Lot loving hearts enthrone Him. Raise, raise the song on high, the virgin sings her lullaby; Joy, joy, for Christ is born, The Babe, the Son of Mary. ABNER: Well, what do you know? JOHN: I’ll tell you what! I know one thing more than anything else and Chat is that the baby in Bethlehem is Christ the King, Che Savious of the world, and I love Him. ABNER: So do I. MARK: So do I.
