10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ GENERAL BOARD MEETING OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF CHURCHES In its regular spring business sessions June 3-4 at the Riverside Church in New York City, the National Council of Churches’ policy making General Board: URGED the U.S. Goverment in a resolution to initiate and support a sweeping, international war against hunger in all parts of the world. HEARD NCC general secretary R. H. Edwin Espy warn that the cooperative church movement must match its vigor in seeking social change with equal vigor in seeking common theological grounds for cooperation. RESOLVED to ask he U.S. Government to reconsider its policy of bombing North Vietnam, while praising the Government for initiating steps to improve social and economic standards in Southeast Asia. DECLARED in a special message to the churches that Christian responsibility for education embraces the total educational life of children — both secular and religious. APPROVED first steps in a reciprocal arrangement by which the NCC and the Roman Catholic Church in the United States will exchange observers at top-level meetings. URGED American church leaders and laymen in a resolution to seize the current crisis in the Dominican Republic as an urgent incentive to deepen their understanding and voice their concerns about social and economic unrest in Latin America. LET’S SING TOGETHER is a new song-book especially designed for Youth Fellowships, camps and conferences. It has been cooperatively planned by six Reformed and Presbyterian Churches including the Hungarian Reformed Church in America. LET’S SING TOGETHER contains about 150 songs — hymns, spirituals, canons, rounds, funsongs from the treasury of all nations. “Lift Thy Head, 0 Zion, Weeping”, an English translation of the Hymn of the Hungarian Galley Slaves ( Térj magadhoz, drága Sion) is among them, so is the song “Fine and True” (Az a szép, akinek a szeme kék). It is hoped that LET’S SING TOGETHER will be widely used by the young people of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and their organizations. LET’S SING TOGETHER is available from Magyar Egyház, for 35<f- a copy plus postage. THE CHURCH CENTER FOR THE U.N. will become a focal point for thousands of church people visiting New York and the World’s Fair this summer. Located across UN Plaza from the United Nations Assembly Hall and Secretariat, the Church Center has set aside Thursdays during the summer months as “Churchmen’s Days at the UN,” when special programs for outof-town visitors will be held. JÁNOS PÁSZTOR received the degree of Master of Theology at the commencement exercises of Princeton Theological Seminary. He has been studying under a scholarship grant for the past two semesters and wrote his thesis on the Theology of Preaching. Rev. Pásztor returned to Hungary where he is pastor of the Reformed Church of Szentendre near Budapest. July 11 is the date of the Annual Family Picnic; the place will be Liberty Park in West Carteret. Memorial Sunday services were conducted by U . S. Army Chaplain (Major) Ernest Kosa. Commemoration was made of all members of this congregation and close relatives of present members who had lost their lives on the battlefields in any of the wars of this century while serving in either the U.S. Armed Forces or in the Hungarian Army. We are very happy that three of our young college graduates will return NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS BETHLEHEM 20 members of our congregation were present at the ordination and installation of the Rev. B. K. Röczey in Roebling, N. J. Debby Nemeth, Sandy Chomos, Jackie War os and Jimmy W rabel who were confirmed on May 30th, took part of the Lord’s Supper for the frst time on Pentecost Sunday. They came to the Lord’s Table with their parents. During July and August there will be no Sunday School. English service will begin at 9:30 A.M.; Hungarian at 10 A.M. CARTERET Worship services during the Summer months will begin at 8:30 in Hungarian and at 9:30 in English. There will be no Sunday School; we shall use, however, our regular Sunday School curriculum in Vacation Bible Sehol classes — to be held June 28—July 9 — in order to keep up its continuity. New Bread Communion will be observed on August 1.
