10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ THE SECOND HELVETIC CONFESSION RENDERED IN QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS SECTION HI. God, His Unity and the Holy Trinity 1. What do we believe and teach of God? We believe and teach that as to His substance or nature God is one. 2. What are the attributes of God? God has his origin in himself; He is self-sufficient; He is invisible, incorporeal, infinite and eternal. God is the creator of all visible and invisible things. He is supremely good; He is living and giving life and sustaining everything. He is almighty, all-wise, merciful, gracious, just and true. 3. What else do we believe and teach of God? We also believe and teach that the one, indivisible God exists in three inseparable yet distinct Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. 4. What is the relationship between the three Persons? The Father had begotten the Son from all eternity in an unexplicable mode. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son eternally, and He is worshipful with both. 5. Are there not three Gods then? No. There are only three Persons of the same divine substance. Although as Persons, they are distinct and precede one another yet are perfectly equal. So God is one in the three Persons as the Holy Trinity. 6. How do we know this? We know this because the Bible and the Apostles’ Creed clearly teach the existence of the three Persons. 7. With whom, do we disagree concerning God the Holy Trinity? We disagree with the Jews, the Mohammedans and all those who blaspheme the most holy and worshipful Trinity and teach contrary to the Bible about Him.
