MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 9 itself? Did your walnut tree bear fruit for itself, or for you? Bill: For me! O, I see, what you mean! I guess, you’re right. I have to tell a better one. I go to Church every Sunday. Jill: Why? Bill: Why? Because! Many people go! I like to sing the hymns, I like to listen to the sermon, I am anxious to hear, what the Lord wants to tell me. It is good to go to Church. It is useful. Jill: Useful to whom? The preacher? Bill: The preacher certainly enjoys seeing people in the Church. Jill: Yes. But if you are there, it does not help him. It helps you! What he needs in the Church is the Holy Spirit while he delivers his sermon. But what you need, is the bread of life, and if you’ve listened to the sermon you’ve got it! So your answer was not good. Say another fruit. Bill: Well, here is a better one, you will like it. I give my offering for the glory of the Lord every Sunday. Jill: Would you tell me, how much you give? Bill: Usually a dime. Sometimes a quarter. It is nice of me, isn’t it? Jill: Do you call it a good fruit? Bill: I think, I could give more, really. I don’t know, why I don’t. Jill: My dear friend, this fruit was a little sour. You could do much better! Bill: Gee! Wait a minute! Now listen to me: I never tell a lie, I don’t steal, I don’t kill, I never say dirty words, I have never hurt anybody! Jill: Did your walnut tree hurt anybody? Bill: No! Jill: Does it steal, does it kill, does it say dirty words? Bill: No, my goodness sake! Jill: Then what’s its guilt? Why do you want to cut it down? Bill: Don’t you understand? It bears no fruit! Jill: You just said: you don’t do this, you don’t do that. But you have not told yet, what you actually do? You told about those bad fruits you don’t bear, but where is your good fruit? Don’t you think, you are just like your walnut tree? It does not bear bad fruit, but it does not bear good fruit either. Now, let’s be serious! If the Lord came to you with an axe in His hand tonight, reminding you of what He has done for you, and looking for your good fruit in vain, what do you think, He would do? Bill: I am afraid, He would cut me down. O, my old, good walnut tree, I thank you for this lesson tonight. You are not any worse than I am! I will not cut you down. I’ll wait another year. O, Lord, be patient and merciful! Make me a good tree that I could bear good fruit, be of use to others and serve and love Thee in all my life! The conference will be three days as usual, beginning Friday evening and closing on Labor Day at 1:00 p.m. To get full benefit of this short weekend, try to be in camp Friday night. The fee is $16.50 including the Friday evening supper, $15.50 otherwise. The main topic of the conference, “Interfaith Marriages’’ will be introduced by the Rev. Joseph Cookson of Churchville, Pa. and discussed in small groups. We have sent out three newsletters thus far, and we hope they were helpful. It is planned that the youth will take part in all leaderships and group discussions, morning and evening prayers. The advisors, the Rev. Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, and Mr. and Mrs. John Nemish will assist them. This year we are celebrating our 25th anniversary for which we planned a square dance with a professional caller. We would like all the girls to bring along a square dance skirt and the boys a plaid shirt; let’s look like real squares! We have asked each group to prepare a fun skit for Sunday night around the camp fire. We have planned to have plenty of time for recreation and relaxation both physically and spiritually, and we hope good fellowship will reign.
