10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ YOUTH NEWS Meeting of Western Classis Youth Fellowships The Duquesne Youth Fellowship was host to the third District Meeting of the Western Youth Federation held on June 14. The young people from McKeesport, Pa., Akron and Youngstown, Ohio, attended the regular Sunday morning worship services. A delicious lunch was served afterwards in the church hall by the members of the Women’s Club. After the early afternoon business meeting the youth were divided into two groups. The younger group, on the ninth grade level, discussed dating under the leadership of Dennis Sapos and Charlene Nagy. The main group, consisting of about 50 high school students and recent graduates, discussed the “Problems of Christian Marriage.” The topic was introduced by Mrs. Stephen Szőke, after which the group was divided into three smaller groups. Each group had a youth leader and two adult advisors. The youth leaders were: Albert Helmeczi, Janice Horvath and Stephanie Szőke. The adult advisors included Mr. Gene Chepke (Youngstown), Mr. Joseph Farkas (Akron), Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Kovach, Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Shigo, Rev. & Mrs. Stephen Szőke (all from Duquesne). The discussions were lively and interesting, some information and literature will be sent out to those who requested them and some of the issues will be reopened on a future meeting. Later Mr. Joseph Kissel, a public school principal, showed slides and articles from Borneo where his brother is a missionary. After supper the Duquesne group presented a short skit and the Akron group sang folk songs. It was our privilege and pleasure to host the Western Youth Conference. Everyone who attended not only enjoyed the fellowship but gained much in listening and discussing the topic. The next district meeting will be held in McKeesport, on Sunday, October 18. In the meantime everyone is looking forward to meeting at the National Youth Conference in New Jersey. Ruth Ann Sapos NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS BETHLEHEM Services during the months of July and August: English at 9:30; Hungarian at 10 a.m. Our Vacation Bible School was conducted every Tuesday and Thursday evening in July. We had our Sunday School Picnic on June 27th in the Willow Park. A Garden Picnic was held at the home of Mr. & Mrs. E. Erdie on July 19th. CARTERET Worship services during the summer months begin at 8:45 in Hungarian and at 9:45 in English. New Bread Communion services will be held August 2nd. Many members of the congregation spent a pleasant afternoon at our Annual Family Picnic in Carteret’s relandscaped Liberty Park on July 12th. According to the policy of the Board of Elders the goal for the picnic was fellowship, not moneymaking. A flat donation of $1.75 ($.75 for children) covered all food and drink and entertainment. Elders and members of the Men’s Club who volunteered for the picnic committee did a splendid job in both preparing all the food and providing all the services and entertainment. A two-week summer school was held with strong emphasis on religious instruction instead of recreation. We used regular Sunday School teaching material. Weddings: June 6 — Andrew Joseph Fedlam and Fruzsina Margit Harsányi; June 14 — Robert Anthony Jesienski and Elaine Margaret Farkas; July 11 — John Andrew Toth and Elizabeth Rose Bieber; July 18 — Alexander Sebok, Jr. and Helen Lucille Goodrich. Funeral: Mrs. John K. Balogh, née Ilona Kovács, 68 years old on July 7th. Mrs. K. Balogh was confirmed and married in our church and was one of the charter members of the Lorantfy Society. Blessed is the memory of the faithful! DUQUESNE According to our Summer Schedule we hold the Sunday morning services as follows: Hungarian Service at 9 A.M. and the Worship Service in English at 10 A.M. Our Sunday School is recessed for July and August, but the Preschool Department (the Nursery & Beginners) is open and held at 9:50 A.M. We will return to our regular schedule after Labor Day, on Sunday, September 13. Our Women’s Club held their annual election at the June meeting with the following result: Julia Nagy, President; Ella Fodo, Vice- President; Betty Mitrik, Secretary and Margaret Peclet, Treasurer. They were installed by the pastor and will take over their duties in September. A delightful garden party was held by the members of the Women’s Club and some of their families at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Alex Szabó and at the adjacent lawn and swimming pool of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Danes, on July 15. The group will attend a Civic Light Opera in Pittsburgh on August 6. At least twelve of our young people are planning to attend the National Youth Conference. PERTH AMBOY The general repairs and redecoration work around the church started in the beginning of July by the Home Construction Co. The waterproofing of the walls, inside and out, new floors in the basement, a new heating system, etc., will be completed in August. The total cost will be about $35,000. Free will offerings will help to defrey the expenses. The Men’s Club will sponsor an excursion to Roosevelt Park on August 23rd. Refreshments will be served but everyone is asked to bring his own food. The Summer Vacation Bible School was fairly well attended this year: total enrollment was 154, the theme of the course was “God, My Country and I.” 21 teachers helped, and 76 children attained perfect attendance. Sunday School continues all through summer. Send, better yet, bring your children to Sunday School and church. Bring along your friends and visitors to worship services, too! The Congregation will sponsor a testimonial dinner for the Pastor on the 10th anniversary of his serving in Perth Amboy, on Sunday, September 20th at noon. Those who would like to attend should keep this date in mind! ROEBLING On June 28th, the Rev. László Kovács, who served the church from September last year said farewell to the members of the congregation. He will attend the Graduate School of Indiana University where he will also teach. May God’s blessing be with his studies and serving the kingdom of Christ. During the month of July the Rev. Dénes Tamás, pastor of the Manville, N. J., Church supplied the pulpit at both services. The Holy Communion table will be set on Sunday, August 2nd for
