10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ Saturday night featured a “first” for this conference with youth written, prepared, and presented historical skits depicting the major Protestant branches of Episcopalian, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist and Reformed faiths. Sunday’s morning worship in the Chapel was conducted entirely by the young people. Additional Sunday activity included the second lecture by Rev. Kovács, discussions, recreation, and the Assembly of the Federation at which time the youth took a step towards the parent church’s form of Government by including a member from each of the congregations on the newly elected slate of officers and delegates at large. Sunday night was entertainment night with a warm fellowship being displayed by the performers and the audience. Columns would be needed to outline all the signs of maturity and all the signs of progress towards a responsible, alive, and complete Christian witness by the youth and the adults working with them. It will take time for the youth as well as the adults to raise the standards of these conferences to the point of maximum capability of the youth. The Twenty-Fourth Annual National Conference represented major accomplishments which will be matched and surpassed by future conferences — God granting the continued willingness on the part of all of us not to relay “foundations” but to “let us go on.” Joseph Cookson ------------------o----------------E. A. Y. F. MEANS EASTERN AREA YOUTH FEDERATION At the recent Annual National Conference of the B.Y.F. it came to my attention that the majority of the young people fyrom the West did not know what the Eastern Area Youth Federation was or did. So now I would like to give a brief summarization of the Eastern Area Youth Federation and its functions. The Eastern Area Youth Federation is composed of six local youth fellowships of the Hungarian Reformed Church: two from Trenton, one each from Roebling, Carteret, Perth Amboy, and Staten Island. In all we have a hundred and twenty members. We have set up a Constitution and By-Laws by which we govern ourselves. Our Executive Board uses this in order to run the Federation as smoothly as possible. We YOUTH NEWS EASTERN AREA YOUTH FEDERATION The Eastern Area Youth Federation had its last Quarterly Conference in Roebling, N. J. October 20. 90 young people from our Eastern Area congregations attended, also guest groups from the Passaic Hungarian Reformed Church and Trinity Methodist Church, Roebling, N. J. “Civil Rights Today” was the general theme which was discussed in four groups with the following sub-themes: “Civil Rights in Your Environment,” “Civil Rights and Christian Ethics,” “Impact of American Civil Rights Abroad,” “How Do You Feel Toward the Negro Race?”. The next quarterly conference have set up the Executive Board so that all our fellowships have a representative on it. We have also set up an Executive Advisory Board which advises the Board on matters which might arise. The members of this Board are lifetime members as long as they remain active with their local fellowships and the Eastern Area Youth Federation. We have set this up in such a way that the past president automatically becomes a member at the time of the election of a new president. The members of both Boards and the membership as a whole has the guidance from the pastors of the church belonging to the Eastern Area Youth Federation. To add to our guidance, we also have two Advisors who are considered to be part of the Executive Board. They use their wisdom and experiences with the youth to help us to do a much better and more meaningful job. Now to get to the social part of the Eastern Area Youth Federation. We as a whole try to have more social as well as more religious gatherings in order to bring the youth of the Eastern Area closer together. We have a Conference almost every three months. At these we open our Conferences with our religious discussions such as we had at the Annual Conference. Then we hold our business meeting and after that we enjoy a supper given by the host club. After the supper we have a social for the rest of the evening. These Conferences are held on Sunday afternoons. The last such Conference was in Roebling, N. J. The theme was “Civil Rights Today.” Close to a hundred young people attended. The Eastern Area Youth Federation has social activities between the Conferences. We also sponsored a picnic in July. As president of the E.A.Y.F., I would like to extend an open invitation to both Youth and Parents and Advisors, who happen to be in our general vicinity, to stop in on our Conferences and Socials. Before I finish I would like to ask the youth leaders of the fellowships in the West to write more articles so that we of the East may be able to know of the activities of their clubs. Roger Bodnar E.A.Y.F. President If you would like to know more about the E.A.Y.F. feel free to write to Roger Bodnar, 491 Sharrott Road, Staten Island 9, New York. Telephone: (212) YUkon 4-2208. will take place in Perth Amboy, N. J. in January. Until then, there will be a Halloween Dance on November 2nd, and a Christmas Party in mid-December, both in Staten Island. DUQUESNE We are glad to announce that our group acquired three lay advisors: Mr. Richard Szuch, Mrs. Sharlotte Probst and Miss Joan Szuch who will assist our pastor in adult leadership. Our Fall program includes a hayride on Sunday, November 17, and a week-end outing at Forest Park (November 29-30) with members of the McKeesport group. A special youth meeting is planned by our group to be held on Sunday, November 10, in Akron, Ohio, to meet not only with the host group but with members of the McKeesport, Detroit and Youngstown youth groups. It may become an organizational meeting for the Western District; we hope to have 40-50 young people. More than 60 group pictures of the Conference were ordered, and judging from the letters received, the Conference is past but the memory lingers on. Many thanks for the kind comments. PERTH AMBOY The new officers elected for the Christian Youth Fellowship are the following: Pat Moran president, James Kozma vice-president, Rodney Mattó secretary, Andy Lovász
