12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ THE 16th ANNUAL NATIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE - SEPTEMBER 3-4-5, 1955, McKeesport, penna. sponsored by BETHLEN YOUTH FEDERATION FREE MAGYAR REFORMED CHURCH IN AMERICA WELCOME TO McKEESPORT McKeesport is an industrial city of Western Pennsylvania with a population of 53,000. We are proud to say that with the exception of the Germans and Swedes, we, the Hungarian Reformed, the only immigrants who have built two Protestant Churches here. Our church is the largest church in the Western Classes, and in one of the four largest Free Magyar Reformed Churches in America. Our people, as one man, greet and welcome the Bethlen Youth Federation, the youth of the Reformed Magyar Churches, at this, their 16th National Youth Conference. May you all feel at home with us. We admit that thousands of dangers threaten all of us in this world, and that our youth of today are threatened not only by murderous weapons, but the Great Tempter and Deceiver is constantly attacking the youth of our nation. There is no enemy that can cause greater destruction to our youth than the great enemy of our age — SIN. We believe and confess that only those young people can be victorious over the world who have met with the Living Christ. That is why we are gathered here at this National Conference that we might discuss why it is so necessary to meet with Christ, and what happens to that youth who meets with Christ. At the eleven o’clock morning service, the text will be Luke 7, “Young Man, I Say Unto Thee, Arise.” We are very happy to announce to you that we are fortunate to have as our main speaker the Reverend Walter R. Clyde, Ph. D. Professor of Christian Education and missions of Western Theological Seminary of Pittsburgh. We cordially invite you to attend our National Youth Conference at McKeesport. May the young people of the Free Magyar Reformed Church in America meet with Christ here. Treasurer--------------O-------------McKEESPORT, PENNSYLVANIA The Bethlen Youth Conference to be held here in September has kept the Youth Fellowship quite active, but has not kept us from having our own good times. We held our initiation party last month to welcome all new members to our Fellowship. Our first outdoor meeting this year was held in Renziehauszen Park. It is easy to see that a project of some sort can readily hold together and unite more closely a group. For this reason we are quiet sure that the coming conference will be a success. Information and necessary data have been sent to all Youth Fellowship’s and we ask that all replies be sent to us as soon as possible. In closing, we wish to express our thoughts to the Magyar Egyház. All the material in the English section of the paper has certainly been interesting and we hope that all contributors will keep up the good work.-----------o----------“DO NOTS” FOR BRIDES AND GROOMS Do not marry unless you are in love. Puppy love leads to a dog’s life. — Do not marry in haste. “Married in haste we may repent in leisure.” — Do not marry for money or position in society. Money and property may soon be destroyed or spent while positions are subject to change. — Do not marry a person who is physically or morally unfit. You do not want to start a hospital or work-house. — Do not marry through sympathy or to reform a person. Reforms should be accomplished before marriage. — Do not marry to spite anyone or to please anyone but yourself. Formerly existing loyalties should, nevertheless, receive thoughtfull consideration. — Do not marry unless you can adapt yourself to circumstances or to the other person’s ways. You must give as well as take. — Do not put off marriage too long, although singleness is better than life in an unsuccessful marriage. — Do not marry unless you are willing to have a family and bear responsibilities. If you are going to be a boarder then stay single. — Do not marry an irreligious person if you are religious, nor marry a person of opposite beliefs. You want harmony in the home above everything else.
