The poet, whose original name was Hüseyin and who is also known as ENDERUNLU FAZIL, is famous for his witty and sensual works. ENDERUNLU FAZIL grew up in the palace's school (Enderun). Due to his excessive life style and sexual passion he was expelled from the Palace. He spent a restless life. He had been given an official post for the kaside s he wrote for Sultan Selim III (1789-1807). Because of his satires he was banished to Rhodes; there he became blind and for that reason was allowed to return to Istanbul. He is buried in Eyüp Sultan. Huban-name, Zenan-name and Defter-i aşk are examples of his works in this manner. The Defteri-i aşk was even translated into French (1890).
