THE MONGOL COLLECTION Mong. 1 Mongolian-French Glossary European-bound manuscript book on 19th-century western paper, 19.7 : 13.2 cm, originally no pagination, 1298 ff, now with pencil pagination beginning from the last leaf. Black ink, pen. Mongol words written in Arabic script, arranged in alphabetical order. One entry on each second odd (now even) leaf verso (now recto); original recto and following leaf are left blank. Inscription on the saddle in Arabic: mógól. The Mongol words are transcribed from J. E. Kowalewski's Dictionnaire mongol-russe­français, sometimes with more, sometimes with less lexical parallels. Each entry has a double number: the upper number represents the page in Kow., the lower number marks the column. Inc. f. "1298a" with: " â â A voyelle et premiere lettre de l'alphabet mongol". F. "1296a:" A. 1. Interjection exprimant l'étonnement, la consternation, l'effroi. 2. Signifiant approbation, consentement, accord: ou, c'est cela, précisément, exactement; 3. Ligne, trait dans l'écriture, peinture; signe O ou rond que l'on met au commencement d'une écriture [= Kow. I, p. la, here no. 1.1], Cf. Also f. "1126a:" îrbîs, párs, árslán Leopard, phantére, tigre.
