SUMMARY THE UNITY OF LIBRARY AND DOCUMENTATION IN THE LIBRARY OF THE HUNGÁRIÁN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES The chapters of the survey prepared for the 150th anniversary of the Library are: 1. An historic flashback 2. The functional system of the Library 3. From the future plan. The publication emphasizes the combination of traditional library and modern documentary tasks in the Library, pointing out that the Library does not attach the concept of modernity to the outward form of information or the method ofits processing but to its content. The central library and the network of research institutes (40 units) - with altogether 2.5 millión bibliographic units - are an important information base even by international standard, with special regard to the fact that the collections consist almost exclusively of scientific woiks. The library - and information tasks organically complement each other and reciprocally assume each other's existence. This is the approach to the development plans for the future.
