The 150th anniversary of the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences : addresses of the foreign guests / 150 let Biblioteke Vengerskoj Akademii Nauk

50 At an early date the Library entered into arrangements for the exchange of publications with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and these exchanges continue to this day, to the great gratification of both parties. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences was founded in 1825 and its Libraiy came into existence in the following year. The Academy was a creation of that spirit of that liberal national movement which was the glory of nineteenth-century Hungary, was exemplified in the great personality of Kossuth, and was largely inspired by the political thought and traditions of Britain, whose influence is attested to this day in the architecture of the Hungarian Parliament House. My country is glad to salute the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and its Libraiy. The University of Oxford and the British Academy express their greetings, and the Bodleian Library , in a spurit of long-lasting friendship, expresses to the L'brary of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences its congratulations and best wishes for the next century and a half of prosperity and creative scholarly existence.
