Such factors have encouraged the erroneous assumption that works written by Goldziher in Hungarian are either already translated or not worth reading".

1 The language barrier was taken humorously by Joseph Schacht: the young Goldziher „published translations from Turkish into Hungarian; the late J. Schacht used to tease his students by drawing their attention to a fine Portuguese translation of this work — in the unlikely event that anyone failed to understand Hungarian".
