Szabolcs. Szabolcs Péter Munkácsy-díjas szobrászművész katalógusa 2002. április 5. - május 1. (Zalaegerszeg, 2002)

Péter Szabolcs comes from a Polish birth working-class family from Diósgyőr. He was grown up in hard circumstances regarding both in financial and health circumstances. He sat for his entrance examination to Arts Secondary Grammar School being aware of not having a good chance. But he was admitted at once. Here István Somogyi was his master, later being admitted to the Arts College in 1962 - after he had worked for Arts technician Company for a year. After finishing the school he came to Zalaegerszeg nearly by chance, that could have comprehended as determination but the truth is: he was asked to come here and not to any other town. It is hard to tell it was his luck or not. We do not know whether it was a luck or not to be transferred to a place where he altogether with László Dús had to develop and organize the art life to from its frames and circumstances. Wh should say it was a luck ('the glass is not half empty, it is half full'), because Szabolcs is an optimistic person. Beyond the sculptural self-realizatio he took the task of organization with youthful energy that hardly ceased. He tought in secondary grammar school as a private tutor, he took an important part in developing the Egerváér colony of sculptors, he was the leader of the art study group of Zalaegerszeg. Being aware of his position and mission he took part in the every level of professional art life and he served the serves important functions in the local and reional art organizations. He tried to help everybody searching the goodness and the hings that could be improved. Of course he put up several sculptures. First he exhibited his sculptures in Göcsej Museum in 1969 (similarly to the present exhibition). His first public doamin sculpture was exhibited in Letenye in 1972. 1975 was especially successful for him, when he got the gold medal of Ravenra II. International Dante Biennal Festival. He was awarded the 2nd prize of Young Art Jubilee Exhibiton in Budapest. The honours came after, the Award of Art Foundation in 1980 and the Munkácsy-Prize in 1984 excelled. It is hard to consider his exhibitions and work. His sculptures were put up in more than half a dozen settlements in Zala county. Zalaegerszeg Tulip Motif (1984) became the symbol of the town. We could find his sculptures in several places in the country, that is more beyond our border from Munich to Herszon. His smaller jobs are kept more than then countries. He has participated in Italy, Soviet Union, Germany, the Netherlands, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria nad Finland. His art means are rather wide. He worked with metal, stone, wood and sometimes when his artistic mind needed with decayed wood that can hardly be formed. The raw material and the technic depend on the content and of course the possibilities. The message decides above the questions. His favourite technic is creasing of brand plate that can ensure a wide range of possibilities. He yielded to force when he used this cheap material that is easy to form. It became very important in his art. In comparsion with massive sculpture it needs different way of thinking, because the deimited part of the space - the delimition itself becomes sculpture 9
