tálya támogatásának köszönhetően 1983 tavasza óta anyagiakban is jobban megbecsülhetünk —, kiállított műtárgyaink biztonságos őrzéséért kifejezett őszinte elismerésünkkel zárjuk. Akkor, amikor a beszámoló által behatárolt időszakban «múzeumi szervezetünk tevékenységét In the above —mentioned time period the Museum Administration carried out its activity on the basis of the annual plans approved by the supervisory authorities. During the two years the new organizational structure introduced in 1981 and based on decentralization stood the practical test; the earlier situation, which in this respect was unsteady, became stabilized. The size of our staff improved but in the near future we shall need an art historian, an ethnographer, a geologist and two adult educators with permanent status. The increased demands on our public education work — we are thinking here primarily of the exhibitions — necessitates an enlargement of the conservation and exhibition arranging group. In the course of the two years, there occurred what may be called the average fluctuation in our peronnel (change of place of work, retirement, hiring of new workers, maternity leave, etc.). Thirteen staff members, a better than average number, were honored for their work. The data referred to below indicate the growth of our economic activity. Our yearly budget ammounted to about 11 million forints in 1982 and 13 million forints in 1983. A significant part of the above amounts was allotted to our large-scale construction activity: the renovation of the Bakony Museum building in Veszprém, the development of the workshop and storage center in Felsőörs and the establishment of the Balácsa Roman villa complex and outdoor display of ruins. As a result of our work in Felsőörs conservation and exhibition arranging workshops, modern from a country-wide point of view,, was established (unfortunately our strained storage problems could not be solved at the same time). Probably in the spring of 1984 a new exhibition gallery will open its doors in Balácapuszta. On the other hand, the reconstruction work on the Bakony Museum building will continue during the following years because of a lack of funds and construction capacity. We renovated the building of the Kisfaludi Memorial Museum in Sümeg and electric heating was installed in the Tihany Museum. Archaeological investigation was significant among the scientific activities oi the Bakony Museum in Veszprém. The excavation of the Roman villa complex in Nemesvámos-Balácapuszta was continued and in Tihany the monks' dwellings (a hermit colony of the Árpád period) were explored. Two cemeteries of the összegzetten és globálisan eredményesnek ítéljük meg, a szakmai és gazdasági vonatkozású támogatásért, ezzel együtt feladataink ellátásának megkönnyítéséért köszönetet mondunk a múzeumügyet magáénak érző párt- és állami szerveinknek, szakmai és szakigazgatási—felügyeleti szerveinknek: a Művelődési Minisztérium múzeumi osztályának és a Megyei Tanács V. B. művelődésügyi osztályának. Avar period (Várpalota—Bántapuszta, Veszprém) and two medieval churches (Balatonfüred, Ugod) were excavated. Investigation was continued on the prehistoric earth fortification in the Bakony Mountains. Our ethnographic collecting and processing activity was concentrated primarily on the historico-etnographic exploration of the Kali Basin complex. A conference on this entitled „Suvery of changes in villages of the Kali Basin" was organized in the fall of 1983. The work of the History Department embraced the wide range of modern history research and collection (history of handicrafts, investigation of ways of life, military history, history of the labor movement, factory, school history). The current construction work in the Bakony Museum building caused difficulties for the uninterrupted work of the library, archive and photographic laboratory. The Local History Museum in Pápa, besides archaeological investigations, engaged primarily in ethnographic and local history collecting. The collaborators of the Bakony Natural History Museum in Zirc satisfactorily continued their collecting and processing activities in the fields of zoology and botany as part of their research program of more than 10 years duration, entitled „The Natural History Picture of the Bakony Mountains". The collaborators in the museum system quantitively and qualitatively engaged in important publication acitivity (scientific studies, popular science articles, catalogs, etc.). In the course of the two years there was also a productive increase in the collected and registered material objects with the exception of industrial art, fine art and anthropology. In the period discussed, three new museum exhibiton centers were opened (Tapolca: Pedagogical Collection, Bazsi: István Simon Memorial House, Bakonyszentkirály: blacksmith's shop). A total of 8 permanent and 28 temporary exhibitions were arranged; at the same time 4 traveling exhibitions were organized in the county territory. The above exhibitions (more precisely the permanent exhibitions) were visited by 745,565 persons in 1982 and 705,651 in 1983. On the basis of the report, we judge the activity of the Veszprém County Museum organization in 1982— 1983 to have been wholly successful.
