Verseghy Klára: Az Északi- és a Keleti-Bakony zuzmóvegetációja

THE LICHEN VEGETATION OF THE NORTH AND EAST BAKONY MTS. Bakony Mts. is part of the Transdanubian Central Range. The North and East Bakony Mts. are regions readily separable from each other both phytogeographically and climatologically. The North Bakony Mts. receives more precipitation, its submontane beechy region to the ESE is surrounded by woods of Quercus pubescens, karst scrub forests and by petricolous grassy vegetation of Illyrian character. The last is only found in the East Bakony Mts. The WALTER climatic diagrammes clearly reflect the humid character of the North and the semi-arid character of the East Bakony Mts. The separation of the two large regions is justified not only by the higher plants, but also by the lichen vegetation. In the cool, moist valleys montane. boreal and Atlantic species are frequent, while in the East Bakony Mts. the Mediterranean, sub-Mediterranean, continental and xerophilous elements are dominant mainly in the south-facing slopes and the petricolous grassy vegetation. Some 50 per cent of the species is rock-inhabiting in nature, 26 per cent lives on the forest floor and tracks, 23 per cent on the bark of trees, 4 per cent on mosses. The species composition and coverage of the exolithic lichen vegetation of the dolomite are poorer than the one on limestone. The explanation to this phenomenon lies in the difference in hardness of the two media. Klára Verseghy
