circumstances and in permanent danger because of the borderland collisions. The extremely hard circumstances of the Turkish-Hungarian borderland within the occupied territory of the diocese made the church and cultural life practically impossible. The bishop of Veszprém never entered the occupied part of his diocese during 150 years. The Hungarian population of the region joined the Reformation nearly uniformly. Bosnian Franciscans also appeared on the southern parts of diocese as a result of the huge Southern Slav immigration. Finally it can be summarised that growth of Veszprém diocese takes up room about in the middle comparing it with other dioceses during Catholic renascence period because of its inter-geographical location. The Catholic restoration began with much more dynamics in those dioceses which were in better situation and had better benefice (for example Raab bishopric or Esztergom arch bishopric). At the same time its first but hardly opening phases can be found also in Veszprém diocese contrary to that bishoprics which were entirely under Turkish occupation. 88
