Nagy Zoltán: A dunántúli cseréppipa-készítő műhelyek és termékeik a 19. században (Fontes Castriferriensis 1. Szombathely, 2001)
NAGY ZOLTÁN: DUNÁNTÚLI CSERÉPPIPA KÉSZÍTŐ MŰHELYEK ÉS TERMÉKEIK A XIX. SZÁZADBAN system in the parking lot in front of the cinema, whilst in 1990 another quantity was found a 100 meters away from this place at Street József Vida during the foundation works of Monaco. A pitch of 2 square meters was archaeologically attested, about which scaled lay-out and pictures were also made (Tables V-VI.). The artifacts recovered from a more expanded area are illustrated by photos edited as artifact group tables (Tables VII-XI.). Based on the data published in chart no. 4. of the Appendix, 228 artifacts of which half quantity was constituted by pipe fragments were recovered from the layer of waste in a depth of 180 cm containing pipes of 15-20 cm in width. Half amount was fired black, the other half remained in the color of a terracotta. 57 out of 101 pipe fragments were sealed. Nearly 40% of them was sealed PODRECS, a quarter displayed SCHWARZ IN KÖRMEND, and approximately one-fifth bore the seal of K. AZAR. ANTON PARTSCH, and PARTSCH, yet a few had the classic master craftsmen's names of Selmecbánya, i.e. M. HONIG, BODNÁR SCHEMNITZ. The aforementioned brief data headline, in the knowledge of the way of local application of the brand names, rather reflects the rate by which János Schwarz used the brand names in East and West of himself to firm his market positions. At the time the trench of the city was filled up both industrial waste and vast amount of unglazed and lead-glazed folk ceramics, brick and roof tile fragments were dumped here. From the products of hard tile manufacturing factories the Wiener granite (Wiener Ranftmuster) is represented in low percentage together with glass and metal waste, reflecting the consuming demands of the age. Leftover of meals (bones) never exceeds 10% of the artifacts, i.e. the area of the excavation does not share the feature of a waste pit, rather a city dump ground. The presentation of the artifacts (Tables XLVIII-LII, CVI-CXIV) convinces the reader that the products of an individual work shop in Körmend have to be taken into account. Amongst the pipe shapes dated the first trimester of the 19 th century, the scene dated 1825 presenting emperor heads and the coronation of a Hungarian King sitting on horse back deserves special attention. Three excavations took place in the yard of a house at 55, Street Rákóczi in Körmend in the summers of 1988, 1998, and 2000 in an area totaling 18m 2 . We applied a special scale frame in a way that all artifacts were identified with their proper coordinates, out of which the Roman figure indicates the pitch no., the first and second Arabic numerals equal to the distance measured from point zero, the third number is the depth itself. The color slides taken, the computer topographical data, and the length, cross-section figures of the pitches, the edited pictures of various things, and the quadrate lay-out in a size of 1:10 of the area excavated (Tables XVI-XL, CXV-CXX) may further be studied. 88
