Nagy, Barnabás–Szövényi, Gergely: Orthopteroid insects of Őrség Landscape Conservation Area (Western Hungary)
SAVARIA A VAS MEGYEI MÚZEUMOK ÉRTESÍTŐJE (1997) Szombathely 24/2 (Pars historico-naturalis) 1997 Natural History of Őrség Landscape Conservation Area, 1997 ORTHOPTEROID INSECTS OF ORSEG LANDSCAPE CONSERVATION AREA (WESTERN HUNGARY) Barnabás NAGY 1 — Gergely SZÖVÉNYI' Orthopteroid insects of Őrség Landscape Conservation Area (Western Hungary) — The 46 Orthoptera species (Ensifera 20, Caelifera 26.) recorded for the subalpine region of Őrség (Western Hungary) is the result of several collecting trips in 1982, 1993, 1995 and 1997. The collections were most frequent in June and July. It may suppose that collections at later periods (August, September) might have resulted further records. Among the biogeographically valuable species there should be mentioned first of all the Odontopodisma schmidti, for which the Orseg is the first detected location of Hungary. There are further, zoogeographically valuable species as Leptophyes bosci, Isophya brevipennis (protected by law in Hungary) and the Miramella a. alpina (?). For Miramella and for Isophya the Őrség is the second known location - beside the Kőszegi Mts. in Hungary. Possibilities and chances of survival of species characteristic of the area are discussed from the viewpoint of landscape conservation principles. INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to survey the orthopteroid insect fauna of Orseg (Western Hungary). Data on orthopteroid insects preceding the present work are nearly entirely missing from the Őrség. According to the Orthoptera fauna of the nearby areas, PONGRÁCZ (1940) surveyed the fauna of Kőszegi Mts. (about 60 km north from Őrség). EBNER (1955, 1958) published several data from Southern Burgenland (South-Eastera Austria) an area that is in close connection with Őrség. The monograph on Orthoptera of Slovenia (Us, 1992) published many data of occurrences, as well. The present paper reviews the result of collecting trips made by the authors (1982-1997), by staff members of the Savaria Museum, Szombathely (1993-1994) and by a group of students supervised by Dezső SZALÓKI (1993) (Tables 1-3.). 1 Plant Protection Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences H1525 Budapest, P.O.B. 102., Hurigary Vig, K.
