Nagy, Barnabás–Szövényi, Gergely: Orthopteroid insects of Őrség Landscape Conservation Area (Western Hungary)

NAGY, В.— SZÖVÉNYI, G.: Orthopteroid insects of Őrség STUDY AREA AND METHODS r Collections were made mostly by sweeping net with additional singling. The dried (prepared and pinned) and wet material are preserved partly in the Plant Protection Institute (Budapest) and partly in the Savaria Museum (Szombathely). Unfortunately relative few collections were made in the late season (August, September), which would be generally the most suitable period for collecting grasshopper adults in this area. The study area was located in őrség, which is the western corner of Hungary, outlined by the localities of Szentgotthárd, Csákánydoroszló, Szőce, Szentgyörgyvölgy, Felsőszölnök (Fig. 1.). This area has no distinct borders. It is a humid (up to 1000 mm precipitation/year), highly forested (53%) hilly region laying between 200-400 m above sea level. The majority of the Orthoptera populations are constrained to narrow meadows along the streamlets, to the clearings and forest ecotones. Therefore, the extent of sites with suitable habitats for xerophilous species is very limited. Decreasing pastures and reforestations (mainly with Pinus and Picea) slowly diminish space and suitable habitats for most Orthoptera species in this region as well. The overwhelming majority of the area (about 39000 ha) belongs to the "Őrség Landscape Conservation Area" ("Őrség Tájvédelmi Körzet"). As a basis for nomenclature and systematics HARZ (1969, 1975, 1976) were considered. Based on our earlier work (NAGY, 1992) we tried to appraisal the flight capability of each species which might important in (new) colonizations. RESULTS OF COLLECTIONS The species list below is containing data of collections (locality, habitat/site, date, abbreviated name of collector). Specimens signed with (L) following the name of locality were larvae. Their identifications were problematic in some cases and was only successful following rearing to adults. Abbrevations of the collector's name are as follows: NB Barnabás NAGY TA András TARTALLY SzCs Csaba SZABÓKY TCS Csaba THURÓCZY SZD Dezső SZALÓKI VK Károly VÍG SZG Gergely SZÖVÉNYI ENSIFERA TETTIGONIIDAE Phaneroptera falcata (Poda, 1761) — Alsószölnök: Tűz-hegy (clearing), 13.08.1997, SzG; Alsószölnök: Tűz-hegy (humid meadow), 13.08.1997, SzG; Apátistvánfalva (moorland), (L), 16.07.1993, TCs-VK; Apátistvánfalva (meadow), (L), 30.06.1994, TCs-VK; Csörötnek (meadow), 18.06.1993, NB; Farkasfa
