Due to a war-time ear injury he got a hearing failure. So arrived he at the cadet school in the town Kőszeg. He developed a vast herbarium of spontaneous and cultivated plants originating chiefly from Kőszeg. The collection was enriched also exchanges. A number of genera is very abundant in species. Piers worked a good deal with Vince Borbás. The plants Mentha Piersiana BORB., Thymus Piersiana В ORB., Rosa zalana WIES
