IV PRAENORICA FOLIA HISTORICO-NATURALIA 2001 OAK GALL WASPS OF KŐSZEG VICINITY (HYMENOPTERA: CYNIPIDAE) MELIKA, George 1 — BECHTOLD, Mária 1 Oak gall wasps of Kőszeg vicinity (Western Hungary) (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) — Sixtysix species of oak gall inducing cynipids were found in Kőszeg vicinity (Felső- and Alsó-forest). Some data on biology, trophical relationships, alternation of generations are given. INTRODUCTION About 120 species of oak cynipid gall inducing wasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae, Cynipini) are known from Europe and contiguous territories (North Africa, Asia Minor). AMBRUS (1974), in his overview work listed 101 species of oak gallinducing cynipid wasps for the fauna of Hungary. MELIKA et al. (2000) listed 95 species because of some nomenclatorial changes. AMBRUS (1961) listed 48 species of oak gall wasps for Kőszeg vicinity (Felsőand Alsó-forest). We study the oak gall cynipid wasp fauna of Kőszeg vicinity since 1996 and registered 66 species which belong to the next genera: Andricus Hartig, 1840 - 46 species, Aphelonyx Mayr, 1881-1, Biorhiza Westwood, 1840 - 1, Callirhytis Foerster, 1869 - 1, Chilaspis Mayr, 1881 - 1, Cynips Linnaeus, 1758 - 6, Neuroterus Hartig, 1840 - 9, and Synophrus Hartig, 1843 - 1. Galls were found trophically associated with Quercus cerris L., Q. petraea (Mattuschka) Lieblein, Q. robur (L.), and Q. pubescens Willd Collectings were done in the Kőszeg Mountains, in the Felső-forest (Felső-erdő) and in the Alsó-forest (Alsó-erdő). The Alsó-forest, however, is situated out of the border of Kőszeg Mountains (Fig. 1). Quercus cerris is a very common species of oaks in the Alsó-forest and rare in the Felső-forest. Below we listed only those species of oaks on which we found the cynipid species in vicinity of Kőszeg. When we do not mentioned in which part of Kőszeg vicinity the species was found, its mean that the species was found in both, Felső- and Alsó-forest. 1 Plant Health and Soil Conservation Station of Vas County, Systematic Parasitoid Laboratory H-9730 Kőszeg, Kelcz-Adelffy u. 6., Hungary
