454 Premises and notionhistorical context of the idea to create open-air museums FERENC WINKLER At the beginning the author analyses the connection of contemporary discovered rural architecture to European national self-knowledge during the Nineteenth century. The early second half of this period produces the discovery of European rural cultural „products". The idea of open air exhibitions - turned later into the one of museums - was born exactly during this period in Scandinavia, developing extraordinary rapidly towards a civil society. The changes were based upon the practice of international world exhibitions. The author accompanies the total history of the open-air-idea up to the birth of Skanzen in Europe and also in Hungary. He summarizes all the early experiments and briefly examines their message. In several cases the author takes remarks towards modern muséologie comparisons.
