40 Preliminary report of the preceding excavation of 2000-2001 (sites No. 9-10 and 36) on the encircling section of Road No. 61. around Kaposvár KRISZTINA SOMOGYI The sites No. 9-10 situated between the KaposvárKaposfüred section of the 67. Highway and the Kaposvár-Fonyód railway line, lie on both sides of the waterflow, named Tüskevári-ditch, at the bottom of a line of N-S directional hills. In June 2000 we excavated on a territory of 5660 m 2 3 pits from the Balaton-Lasinja Culture of the Mid Copper-Age and a section of a relatively small Celtic settlement (LTC - 11 objects), which contained among others 2 subterraneous pole structured buildings. A furnace used most probably for recurrent incandescence, breast wall fragments and dross refer to iron smelting activity. The site No. 36 was found about 0,5 km to the N-NE from the Santos fork of the 61 road, between the Kapos river and the Kaposvár-Taszár railway line. In the autumn of 2001 we excavated on 2500 m 2 the remains of a Late Bronze-Age settlement (late Mound Cemetery -early Urnfield settlement - 90 objects). We could document and lift the deepest 4 rows of planks of a well, tapped together and found in poor condition. This is the first known well from this period in the county.
