Költő László - Varga Máté: 10-11. századi sírleletek Zamárdiból

10th—11th centuries grave finds from Zamárdi LÁSZLÓ KÖLTŐ and MÁTÉ VARGA To the south-west from the Avar period cemetery Zamárdi-Réti földek, further graves were found in the district of Zamárdi-Réti földek and Zamárdi-Csapásidűlő in 1975 and 1989, respectively. The details of the cemetery were described under different names. They probably belong to the same Early Árpád dynasty cemetery. Another Early Árpád dynasty cemetery was located in the southern part of Zamárdi, to the west of the road leading to Balatonendréd. This cemetery was also described under various names: Zamárdi-Téglaégető, Zamárdi-Sáfránykert, Zamárdi-Diászó, Zamárdi-Endrédi út. Formerly, there was a brickyard (=Téglaégető) operating on this territory for which clay was exploited and a lot of soil was taken away by excavator machines. A large number of graves and related finds were destroyed here in the 1960-ies and 1970-ies. The first authentic archaeological excavation took place here in 2006 when 14 graves were found. The Zamárdi-Sáfránykert cemetery can be dated on the basis of the finds to the 10th-11 th century AD.
