K., Barna, R., Böndi, B., Strausz, Sz., Farkas, S. This publication presents all faunistic data of horse-flies that had been published altogether in 26 papers from 1956 up to 2016 in South Transdanubia region (Hungary). Papers before 1956 are not cited here as the checklist of Aradi (1956) contains all data that had been published earlier. The significant part of the data originates from József Majer and Sándor Tóth who have been dealing with horse-flies since the 70s. The investigations of the family Tabanidae resulted in 53 species in the region which is 87% of the Hungarian Tabanid fauna. The distribution of the data is not homogeneous in the area. There is remarkable knowledge on the horse-fly fauna of Mecsek Mountains and Villányi Hills and of nature conservation areas such as Boronka and Béda-Karapancsa Landscape Protection Areas, Látrány Puszta Nature Conservation Area and Drava lowland. In contrast, the fauna of huge territories is unknown in Somogy and Tolna Counties. The most frequent species in South Transdanubia are Atylotus rusticus, Chrysops caecutiens, C. viduatus, Haematopota italica, H. pluvialis, Heptatoma pellucens, Hybomitra ciureai, Tabanus autumnalis, T. bovinus, T. bromius, T. maculicornis and T. sudeticus. Some rare species, like Haematopota bigoti, Hybomitra atterima, H. lurida, H. montana, H. nitidifrons, H. ucrainica, Pangonius pyritosus and Tabanus bifarius are known only from one sampling site.
