Abstract: 121 mollusc taxa were collected recently in 114 sites of Southwest Hungary. Some of the collected mollusc species are fossil or subfossil. Water courses and river-washes hold the most diverse fauna. Keywords: Mollusca, faunistics, Hungary Introduction The first paper on the distribution of molluscs in Southwestern Hungary was published by PINTÉR et al. (1977). Later, FEHÉR and GUBÁNYI (2001) published further distribution records based on the collection of Natural History Museum, Budapest. Finally, PINTÉR and SUARA (2004) recorded mollusc data from this region. Since the last decade of the twentieth century, intensive collections took place mainly in national parks, in landscape protection areas, and also in the Mecsek Mountains. Along the River Dráva, 99 species were recorded from 84 sites by VARGA and UHERKOVICH (1998). HÉRA and UHERKOVICH 2008 published further species from the Croatian side of this river. 112 species were recorded from the Gemenc Landscape Protection Area (Southern Hungarian Danube region) by VARGA and UHERKOVICH 2002. From the Villány Hills, 102 species were collected ( VARGA et al. 2000), and 106 species from the Zselic Landscape Protection Area (UHERKOVICH and VARGA 2005). The most intensive research was carried out in the Mecsek Mountains with the highest number of sampling sites, but only 101 species were found (UHERKOVICH 2010) although other authors also investigated this region (e. g. SÓLYMOS et al. 2007). The field-works expanded mainly to these five regions, augmented with further locations in Southwest Hungary. Material and methods Systematic collections were restricted for certain places of Southern Transdanubia. A few species were collected from agricultural fields and degradated vegetations. These area resulted only poor material.
