Sawfly collections in and around the Carpathian Basin
Bardejov, Sarisske' múzeum Established in 1903. About 850 unidentified specimens collected from the north valleys of Cergov Mts, Busov Mts and Bardejov environs. These specimens were collected by L. Jászay, T. Weisz, S. Trencan and E. Panigaj. Hlohovec, Vlastivedné múzeum Established in 1950. A small Hymenoptera collection includes 47 sawfly specimens collected in Trnava region and Vysoké Tatry, but 38 are without locality label. Nine specimens were identified by L. Jurga (entomologist of the museum) and V. Smetana. Levice, Tekovské múzeum Established in 1927. A total of 258 unidentified specimens were collected mainly by V. Smetana (232 specimens). The collection is originated from various places of Slovakia. Liptovsky Mikulás, Múzeum jaskyniarstva a ochrany prírody Established in 1904. 93 identified specimens are deposited in the museum collected mainly in Martin and its environs; leg. and det. by V. Straka (entomologist of the Turcianske museum). Furthermore, about 100 unidentified sawflies were collected by E. Janíková (former researcher of the Museum) from various places of Slovakia. Martin, Turcianske múzeum A. Kmet'a Established in 1964. A quite large collection of identified Symphyta comprises in total 1,756 specimens from the former Czechoslovakia. Most of this material was collected in the Czech Republic and about 10% has Slovak origin, mainly from átúrovo and Remetské Hámre. It was collected and identified by Z. Pádr. In addition about 100 unidentified specimens from Slovakia is deposited in the museum. Trnava, Západoslovenské múzeum Established in 1954. Currently this museum has not entomologist, but Okáli (1984) noted approx. 3000 Hymenoptera specimens. Ladislav Roller (author) identified the small Symphyta collection of Dr. R. Alayo (retired entomologist of the museum) about five years ago. At moment, access to the collection in Trnava is not possible. Bohemia Praha, IS áradni Museum The collection from the Carpathian Basin contains about 500 specimens from Slovakia and Subcarpathia in Ukraine. These specimens were collected by F. Gregor (South and East Slovakia, Podkarpatská Rus), V. Kocmid (East Slovakia), A. Hoffer (East Slovakia), R. Cepelák (Trencin), A. Vavra (Zakarpatje) and J. Macek (Nizke and Vysoké Tatry). This material is identified by collectors and re-identified by Dr. Jan Macek (hymenopterologist of the Museum). Records published by GREGOR and BAÍ'A (1940, 1941, 1942) were partly based on the museum collection. Romania Bucharest, "Grigore Antipa " Natural History Museum The scientific collection comprises 4,100 Symphyta specimens from all regions of Romania that belong to 397 species. In the unidentified collection there are about 672 sawfly specimens from Maramures, 45 specimens from Piatra Craiului National Park
