THE MEMORIES OF AN OLD MAN FROM BARCS SUMMARY The memoirs as a historical genre nowadays has a neo-renessaince. These memoirs are made on the basis of unified principles, which are constructed into "data-bases" these help the work of researchers. This essay is the looking back of József Parádi, with which we wanted to enrich the memoirs-literature about Barcs. József Parádi from his 91 years only 10 stayed in Bares, but these years were the most important in his life. We get a picture of the 1930s, what kind of opportunities were there for young people to entertain, for spending leisure time, sports and other positive activities. The memoirs does not finish with the showing of the years in Bares. A significant part of the work consists of the taking part in the World War II. as a part of this the hall of battles at Don and the description of the years as a prisoner of war. We get a foretaste of the story a successfully survived captivity. The story finishes with the events of the revolution in 1956 in Szigetvár, where József Parádi also took part as a workers' council-delegate. As this he also took part the election of leaders in the settlement. 231
