Gyökerek • A Dráva Múzeum tanulmánykötete, 2007

Prologue (English)

PROLOGUE This year we hand over our fifth study volume to the readers. The Gyökerek (Roots) is a well-known and acknowledged yearbook of our museum, which we can be really proud of because a similar one is rarely published in other small town museums. We have made a special point of doing this because we think that we accomplish to the town's fame and also to knowing better our culture, environment and the past of our local area. In 2007 we handle as a special theme the research of ethnic minorities living in Bares and the surroundings. We publish essays about boyash Gypsies. The authors of our yearbook show the history and ethnography of Gypsies from several points of view, and report a lot of new, earlier never published data about them. It gives us a great pleasure that our minority series became completed. We also admit the already regular malacological series in this year and we are also allowed to examine shortly the insects of Dráva area. We can get to know new data about archeological spots in the area and an inkling of the earlier never has been studied history of Board of Customs and Excise in Bares. With the help of our authors we share the challenging story of the two earlier prisoners of war: Sándor Márkus (87) and József Parádi (91) to complete the numbers of memoirs about Bares.
