ANYAGI JAVAK VÁNDORLÁSA, KERESKEDELEM - VÁLYI KATALIN: A távolsági kereskedelem újabb emléke Szerről

ERCHANT'S SEAL FROM SZER OF THE 16 TH CENTURY On the excavation of the Arpádian Age Szer monastery (Csongrád county, Hungary) above the ruins of the monastery between the finds of the mediaeval market town we have found an artefact, which seemed to be a seal impression. The material of the visibly not metal find is probably fossilized vax. We can see on the anvil side of it the smaller arms of the town Nürnberg on the reverse a clothimpression. (1-2. pictures) There is an other similar cloth-seal from county Csongrád, which became to light as a surface find in the mediaeval Csomorkány market town but it was made from lead. (3. pictures) According to the archaeological and economic historical data both seals were in connection with the cloth import from South Germany in the way of using them as closing seals or lead seals attached to the delivered bales. These finds indicate that the merchants of Nürnberg traded their products not only towards the Hungarian fortresses but towards the inhabitants of the market towns also. Because of the similarities I suppose that the sample of the false stamp of the town Szeged made in 1719 was taken from the same Nürnberg'arms probably after a similar merchant's seal.
