MAZSOLA’ AT THE RAILWAY STATION

( THE SAVING OF A RELIC OF THE HISTORY OF TECHNOLOGY)

On a popular initiative, the Dornyay Béla Museum succesfully competed for purchasing the diesel locomotive having been situated at the territory of the Steel Factory of Salgótarján in 2015. The factory had to go into liquidation. The locomotive was listed in the collection of the history of technology. The Hungarin National Railways (MÁV) helped to settle it at the Main Square railway station of Salgótaqan, next to the steam locomotive having been exhibited there earlier.

The type of the locomotive for shunting service is Rába M033. Its MÁV serial number is M28, its industrial railways’s line serial number is A21. The locomotives nicknamed ’Mazsola’, were produced from 1955 in the Hungarian Wagon and Machine Factory in the city of Győr. The plans were made by the company MAVAG.

The exhibited locomotive No. A21-052 completed its task in Salgótarján, from 1963 to the end of the 1970s in the Plate Glass Factory, then in the Steel Factory till the liquidation of the latter company in 2013.

In addition to significance of the locomotive in the history of both the national and the local industry, this work summarizes the circumstanses of the renewal and the placement, which were performed with wide social cooperation.
