ANTAL RUSZINKÓ, THE AGRONOMIST AND PUBLIC FIGURE OF SZÉCSÉNY

This study presents an agronomist, Antal Ruszinkó, who was a determinative figure of Szécsény borough at the end of the 19th and in the beginning of the 20th century. He settled down in Szécsény in 1875, rented the 1000- acre-big Velics-Haynald property where he dealt with raising cattles. He won several awards on different agricultural shows, he had Simmenthali cattles. He was a member of the OMGE, National Hungarian Economic Association, but he took part in the work of the Nógrádmegyei Economic Association, too, where he was the chairman of the stock-raising section. His merit was the foundation of the Szécsény Milk Co-op and the dairy schooL

He worked in several associations, furthermore he did responsible professional tasks, for example in adjudication of a claim. In 1907 he got senatorial title and he was appointed as an Economic presenter of Nógrád county.

His public life activity is inseparable from his agricultural work as he was that representative of Szécsény who paid the most tax from 1875 to 1918.

He had three children: Lenke (1871-1883), Gizella (1873 -1957) and Miklós (1883-1911) and he had two granddaughters, Sárói Szabó Mária (1904-1962) and Margit (1908-1991).

The reason why he finished farming in 1918 was probably the First World War’s unfavourable economic effects.
