BÉLA DORNYAY THE ENVIRONMENTALIST OF SALGÓTARJÁN

Many have written about the teaching and scholar activity and historian work of Béla Dornyay. He contributed considerably with his archeologic, geographic and historian work to the approach of the past of Salgótarján. However there is an important group of sources in his local work between 1923 and 1940, which is little-known.

The author in his writing explores Béla Dornyay’s historical ecological works and notes about Salgótarján and its region. The author examines the natural knowledge and ecological attitude of Béla Dornyay to the country, by means of his observations about the environment of Salgótarján and its region. He had an important role in the introduction of hiking and nature conservation. The author takes the work of Béla Dornyay related to protection of animals and plants and his pioneer work in the folk botany field into consideration.
