Kulturális folyamatok tér- és időbeli keretei - Sári Zsolt: Van kiút? Egy tiszamenti település túlélési stratégiája: a falusi turizmus
188 Sári Zsolt Zsolt Sari IS THERE A WAY OUT? A STRATEGY TO SURVIVE: VILLAGE TOURISM The village of Nagykorii is a settlement located in a relatively closed space on the right bank of the River Tisza North East from the city of Szolnok. After the regulation of riverways at the end of the 19th century some great afforestations and plantations of fruit-trees started on the fields of the settlement. The landowner of the village acclimated a kind of cherry (Germersdorf cherry) which became the most important product of the fruit production. The development of village tourism started as soon as the 1990 change of regime took place but not without antecendents, the village in the 1930s was already part of the Hungarian National Weekend Association (Orszagos Magyar Weekend Egyesulet). The village tourism was based on two elements, the natural possibilities of the River Tisza and the opportunities opened up by cherry production. The Cherry Festival (Cseresznye Fesztival) at the end of July is the most significant touristical attraction. It is an invented tradition with various cultural activities and entertainment. The essence and attraction of village tourism is concealed in the recognition and preservation of the local peculiarities. They provide the tourists with plenty of activities such as traditional wedding, pig-killing, an art and craft camp, a folk dance festival and programmes of the new Cherry Festival. That's how village tourism became an important part of the survival strategy for the settlement and provides jobs for more and more inhabitants.
