BOOK FESTIVALS IN SZOLNOK, 1979-2018 IN MEMORY OF ERNŐ SZURMAY

With the exception of the year 1957, the Book Week is held every year in our city. There are only a few series of programs that have played such an important role for almost 90 years in the cultural life of the country or our city. Ernő Szurmay (1923-2016), the previous director of the Verseghy Ferenc Library of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county wrote a paper about the first five decades of the local history of the Day of Hungarian Books and the Book Festival. Continuing the chronicle of the celebration of books as the jubilee year of 90 is approaching, as an associate of the Verseghy Ferenc Library, I collected the events of the last 40 years. Instead of focusing on the nation-wide known guests of writers, I mostly highlighted authors and volumes related to the city. Using posters, small prints, photographs and reports of the press from the period, I presented the traditional programs with the local charm of the celebrations of books in a chronological order.
