A CONCISE HUNGARIAN ETHNOGRAPHY FERENC BAKÓ IN THE HUNGARIAN RADIO Beside museum organisation and academic researches Ferenc Bakó considered the mission of scientific educational work important too. The well-known, popular educational programme of the Hungarian Radio, A Concise Hungarian Ethnography with contribution of 150 ethnographers transmitted the results of the Hungarian ethnography for the interested audience in about 3000 episodes from 1970 to 1990. Until 1978, the programme was edited and presented by Gyula Ortutay, the then president of the Hungarian Ethnographic Society and the leader of the Research Institute for Ethnography of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. A publication was also made of the programmes edited by him. As an editor, he was followed by László Kása, who beside the members of the Research Institute for Ethnography and university teachers, invited the ethnographers of the countryside museums too. Hereby, the spectrum was enlarged by the introduction of new investigations and data collections. Ferenc Bakos first writing in A Concise Hungarian Ethnography was delivered in 1984. Squeezed in 5 minutes, it was related to the Jókai memorial year. The first article was followed by 20 further ones. Due to the short duration of the programme, the length of the writings was very restricted. Bakó chose topics from his main research areas. He wrote four lectures a year. The programmes were interpreted by himself and were recorded in the studio of the Hungarian Radio in Eger. Then the tapes were sent to Budapest with his manuscripts together. Éva Zabrátzky 200
