Monok István: Paracelsus és a tokaji bor. Néprajzzá váló filológiai tévedés

István Monok PARACELSUS AND THE TOKAJ WINE A Philological Error Finding its Way into Ethnography All wine-lovers seem to know that the famous physician, Paracelsus visited the Tokaj region in the early 16th century and wrote the story of the golden grape. The author of this study set out to research all the works by Paracelsus, trying to find the text that is referenced so often, but found that in his study Gyula Magyary-Kossa misunderstood the authorship of the anthology Der Hermetische Nord-Stern (Leipzig, 1778), attributing one of its texts to Paracelsus. From then on the Hungarian professional literature used his study as a reference, so now Paracelsus has a statue in Tokaj and a pharmacy is named after him in spite of the fact that he probably never visited Tokaj and definitely never wrote about the famous wine region. 80
